An American woman and a Japanese man won the elite divisions in the Boston Marathon Monday, the first time runners from each country have taken the top spots in more than 30 years.Desiree (Desi) Linden, a two-time Olympian, battled the rain and wind to win the 122nd running of the storied race. As families along the Gulf Coast deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, people in Iowa are still without power after a derecho with winds of up to 140 miles per hour hit parts of the state on August 10.The term derecho was derived in the state to characterize a line of fast-moving thunderstorms that can produce hurricane-force straight-line winds.“It’s just a mess,” said Steve Becker who farms 800 acres of corn and soybean crops just west of Cedar Rapids.The storm began in the western part of the state and roared to the east, damaging between 10 million and 14 million acres of farmland in the state.In Cedar Rapids, apartment buildings sit without rooves and cars lay totaled. The city was the hardest hit in the state as the National Weather Service measured wind speeds equivalent to that of a Category 4 hurricane.As you drive into Cedar Rapids, however, you see the most widespread damage as once tall-standing corn now bends at 45-degree angles or is completely flattened.“We had a good crop coming. We really did,” said Becker. “I mean, the biggest worry of everybody out there is how we get through this stuff. What are we going to do?”Shortly after the storm passed through, President Donald Trump surveyed the damage. Iowa’s Farm Bureau estimates around 6 million acres, or 40% of Iowa’s corn crops alone, were damaged. It has asked the governor to make a billion request for disaster assistance from the federal government.“This will have a dramatic emotional effect on a lot of producers, a lot of farmers,” said Craig Hill, president of Iowa’s Farm Bureau.Many farmers work on credit. As many NFL fans question the patriotism of kneeling NFL players, the spotlight is now turning to the fans themselves. The Green Bay Packers handed out small American Flags during the Packers-Lions Monday Night Game, as part of the NFL's Salute to Service Military Campaign. "During the National Anthem, everybody was waving (their flags) and singing," Marine veteran Tegan Griffith told WTMJ.  "It made me feel very good."However, by halftime, Griffith says she and her fellow veterans noticed many of the flags were discarded."We started noticing people leaving (flags) on the ground, next to food wrappers and beer cups," Griffith explained.  "We found a couple on the bathroom floor.  The veterans I was with started to get a little upset."After the game, the flags were seen everywhere."It looked like red, white, and blue confetti," described Phil Olson, a season ticker holder.  "People were walking all over them.  It struck me as unpatriotic."After the game, both Olson and Griffith told WTMJ they spotted several fans picking up the extra flags."I'm going to tell the Packers they they shouldn't hand out flags because it's the wrong venue," Olson said. An attorney for President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Michael Cohen was provided secret information about House Intelligence Committee testimony from another committee witness, a sign of the growing discord engulfing the Russia investigation, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter.In December, an attorney for David Kramer -- an associate to Sen. John McCain who had met with former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele -- sent a letter to the House Intelligence Committee accusing the committee's Republicans of leaking information about Kramer's December testimony to the attorney of another witness.The attorney, Larry Robbins, was referencing a conversation with Cohen's attorney Stephen Ryan in which Ryan brought up Kramer's testimony, according to the source. After the conversation, Robbins sent the committee a letter demanding to know why a committee official had shared secret testimony with another lawyer, but instead his client was subpoenaed by House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes to return before the committee on short notice.Leaking testimony to another witness is a violation of committee rules. And the fact that Cohen is alleged to have been the recipient of leaked information raises new questions about whether a key player in the President's orbit received private information about an investigation examining whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia in the 2016 elections.CNN first reported last month on the accusation that Kramer's testimony had been leaked to another lawyer. The Daily Beast first reported that Cohen's attorney was the recipient of the alleged leak.Kramer was of interest to the committee because of his role connected to the dossier written by Steele, which Nunes and other Republicans have sought to discredit. Kramer, who worked for McCain's think tank at Arizona State University in 2014, met with Steele in 2016. He and McCain then met with a former British ambassador to Russia who worked with Steele, according to UK court filings, and ultimately Kramer worked with Fusion GPS to obtain hard copies of the dossier.Cohen and his attorney did not respond to requests for comment. Robbins also did not respond to a request for comment.Emily Hytha, a spokeswoman for Rep. Mike Conaway, the Texas Republican running the committee's Russia investigation, told the Daily Beast that witness testimony was not shared improperly."Any accusation that a witness's testimony was shared with another witness or their lawyer is unequivocally false," she said. The acknowledgment comes at the end of three days that roiled Alaska’s largest city, a span that saw both his denial of accusations Athens made on Facebook and her arrest.
