SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Five locations of the San Diego County YMCA reopened today. They include Dan McKinney, Jackie Robinson, Magdalena Ecke, McGrath Family, and the Mission Valley branches.But with ever-changing rules by the State and County, staff and members of the YMCA understand that this reopening may be short-lived.Twice a day, Doug Harrigan would come to the Mission Valley YMCA. But since the COVID-19 quarantine began, he switched to working out at home."It's been rough," Harrigan said.Now he's back."I had a chance to talk to the members that I used to see on a regular basis, and it just felt good to do a real workout in a gym rather than my living room."Starting July 1, 2020, Mission Valley, Dan McKinney (La Jolla), Jackie Robinson (Mt. Hope), Magdalena Ecke (Encinitas), and McGrath Family (Spring Valley) YMCA branches are open, at a modified capacity."Masks required, health check stations, signage everywhere, and we've separated the fitness equipment to the 6-foot social distancing requirements," Assistant Executive Director of the Mission Valley YMCA, Jason Milosh said.At this point, group exercise classes and pools remain closed.Last week, some branches, including Mission Valley, opened up its Kids Day Camps. This year, space is extremely limited due to social distancing rules, and there will not be any field trips. But parents are happy that they are keeping busy."Summer learning loss has been aggravated by the challenges that our school system has had in the last few months of school," Molish said. "So, we have incorporated some more academic components to our summer camps to help kids bridge that summer learning loss."But with the State and County coming out with new rules, seemingly every week, gyms and community centers like the YMCA, must be flexible."Re-closing is a possibility, and we are prepared for that," Milosh said. "We feel good about the precautions that we have taken, but if things worsen and it is determined that we need to close, then we are going to be prepared to do that."But for Harrigan, he hopes it does not come down to that, because with the YMCA, he says he would look and feel much different."It is essential. If I did not work out, I'd probably be 250 pounds," Harrigan laughed.On July 8, 2020, four more San Diego County YMCA branches will open. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Frank Zamarron, 26, credits his Apple Watch for saving his life.“No warning signs, no pain no nothing,” Zamarron.  “All to know is that my Apple Watch started going off.”It was a Monday night in March, and his watch was alerting him something was wrong.“My heart-rate is elevated, and I'm just sitting at home watching TV relaxing from a long day at work,” he said. “After the fourth alert, I was like okay, something is not right. Time for me to a go to the hospital.”It was a decision that saved his life. It turns out, Zamarron contracted cellulitis, a skin infection, on his right leg. Soon after doctors started treating him, his leg began to blister.“Apparently your body is reacting to the infection trying to fight it off, doing everything it can, raising your heart rate,” Zamarron said. “They said it could have been fatal in a certain situation. Depending on how I treated it. Typically you would take pain pills or something and call it a day.”Zamarron spent seven days in the hospital.Doctors told him his weight might have contributed to the infection. Zamarron is now focused on staying active and getting healthier. 1223

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Fixes are coming to elevators in a 14-story high-rise in downtown San Diego where senior tenants have faced challenges performing everyday tasks. But not soon enough for many.Some residents of the 65 and older Tower Apartments community have missed important appointments and had difficulties running errands, like trips to the grocery store, because of elevator outages.Some residents told 10News it's a long-running issue.RELATED: Seniors left with one elevator in 14-floor?San Diego buildingThe building is undergoing renovations - which residents say they appreciate. But they say the upgrades don't make it ok to shut down one of the two elevators and leave them with an elevator that they describe as unreliable at best. "Everybody is extremely upset," resident Carol Clark said. "And the thing is we don't seem to be getting many answers."One neighbor in a wheelchair broke down in tears during our interview. "It's people's safety," he said. "Not just mine, but everybody else."Shortly after running the story on 10News, management with the apartment complex sent a letter telling residents one of the elevators under renovations should be running by the end of June. After that, the other elevator that has had problems will be upgraded.Management said they will also schedule input meetings with residents for next week. 1372

Hunter, held what he called a “security briefing” on Democrat Ammar Campa-Najjar across from the U.S.S Midway Museum. Campa-Najjar is running against Duncan D. Hunter for his seat in the 50th Congressional District. Congressman Hunter and his wife Margaret are currently facing 60 federal charges of wire fraud and conspiracy. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Fluffy, fresh snow will beckon San Diegans, and road advisories, to the mountains this weekend.Thanksgiving Day's storm brought fresh powder and rain to San Diego mountains. Areas including Julian, Descanso, Pine Valley, and Mt. Laguna saw between two and 12 inches of snow Friday, depending on elevation.Saturday, chain requirements were canceled for State route 79 just north of Interstate 8 to Sr-78/Sr-79 junction in Julian, and on Sr-78 from Banner Grade to Sr-78/Sr-79 junction in Santa Ysabel. Visitors quickly arrived in Julian Saturday, where streets were clear of snow but packed with cars:Sunrise Highway, from Pine Valley to Mt. Laguna, was scheduled to reopen on the southside between Old Highway 80 in Pine Valley to Mile post 27 at 12 p.m., though chains will be required past the 5,000 elevation level.
