(AP) — Southern California authorities say 18 pounds (8 kilograms) of fentanyl have been seized in Orange County — enough of the synthetic opioid to create four million lethal doses.The Orange County Register reports the seizure last week yielded almost half the amount of fentanyl seized by authorities in the county during all of 2018 — a sign the drug is quickly growing into a substantial public threat.Sheriff's officials say investigators served a search warrant and arrested 60-year-old Rudolph Garcia on multiple drug charges. It wasn't known if Garcia has an attorney.Investigators also seized a semi-automatic handgun, heroin, methamphetamine, and ,000 in cash.According to the California Department of Public Health, deaths in Orange County attributed to fentanyl have risen from 14 five years ago to 93 in 2018. 852

Gina Potter has been named the 9th San Ysidro School Superintendent in the last five years.In 2013, Manuel Paul resigned on corruption charges. He pleaded guilty two years later and was sentenced to two months in federal prison.The district hasn’t had a permanent superintendent since September when Julio Fonseca resigned amid allegations of financial wrongdoing.Jose Arturo Sanchez-Macias then stepped in but stepped down two months later following questions regarding payments to himself and his predecessor.Parents and teachers in the district say they want results to create a stronger learning environment they say students deserve. 749

SAN MARCOS (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Tuesday for help in identifying and locating a man suspected of starting a vegetation fire near a San Marcos place of worship last week.The blaze happened shortly before 11:55 a.m. on Dec. 10, at 1111 La Moree Road, south of state Route 78, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.The fire burned roughly 100 square feet of vegetation near a Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, but firefighters extinguished the flames before any buildings were damaged, officials said.Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set and nearby surveillance cameras captured video and images of the suspect, described as a white man riding a mountain bike and carrying a brown backpack. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — One of the first Underwater Demolition Team divers of World War II and one of the last living frogmen died early October.Hank Weldon, 95, was a frogman on the first Navy Seal Team 10.  Donna Weldon was married to Weldon for 12 years, she tells 10News, “It’s been the most wonderful marriage you could ever imagine. He was the most wonderful person ever."Donna had one daughter, two sons and a few stepsons. Hank had three daughters. Together they created one large family. Two of his daughters talked with 10News Friday.RELATED: Filipino World War II veterans receive Congressional Gold Medals“I would stand on his feet and dance," Kathy Berg, Weldon's oldest daughter, said.Friday, the family remembered their best memories with their dad. "He was just my dad, he wasn’t a war hero, he wasn’t a good cop, he was just my dad. He didn’t talk about that at home," Terry Andrew, Weldon’s middle daughter, said.To his three daughters, it wasn’t until their adult lives they realized the impact their dad has made and the historic courage he had. “Articles started coming out about you know, what his place really was in the history,” Berg says. The frogmen would locate mines and notify ships coming in behind them so the ships wouldn’t hit them. After the war ended, he got out of the Navy in 1945. Six months after he got out, he received a letter telling him he was receiving a Bronze Star.His team was the only team that got through the whole series of operation without losing a man. Fifty years later Hank Weldon was inducted into the Green Berets, known officially as the U.S. Army Special Forces.When Weldon died, his wife got a call, “I got a phone call and it said we’d like to bury him in the national cemetery free of charge but I said no. We’ve had our places in Valley Center for some time and I really want him close to where I can go visit him."Weldon’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Skyline Clubhouse in Valley Center on Oct. 27 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The family has invited the public to join them.  2395
