CHANDLER, Ariz. - A woman in the East Valley of Arizona was stung by bees more than 200 times and a few fellow runners just happened to be in the right place--and the right time--to help.Usually cooler weather keeps bees away, but with more trees and flowers in bloom after the recent rain, experts say the bees are sticking around."I was taking my dog out for a walk, it's a normal route," said Marisa Brazil.Her daily routine along Paseo Trail in Chandler took a terrifying turn Monday morning."She was starting to flail her arms and I kind of looked at my best friend, Julie, and said, 'she's either having a really good time or something's happening,'" Brazil said.It did not take long for both women to realize something terrible was happening to the runner ahead of them on the trail."She was really screaming, like loud," said Julie Sternberg. The trained lifeguard ran to help while Brazil called 911."I tried to run up the other side and then some bees came at me," Sternberg said.Sternberg was stung on her head as the bees forced her back. She then saw two other strangers battling their way forward."They kept retreating. So at that point once I figured out there was bees, I figured out that's why. I saw one guy kept moving back," said Sternberg. "She was still screaming the whole entire time, so it was pretty scary," said Brazil.First responders eventually took over. The woman who was stung posted to Facebook from her hospital bed, thanking the strangers who tried to help. The woman who was stung is expected to recover. CARLSBAD (CNS) - Attorneys for the alleged victims of a former Carlsbad military boarding school headmaster whose molestation conviction was overturned last week by a state appellate panel asked the San Diego County District Attorney's Office Wednesday to appeal the ruling or retry the case against him.Jeffrey Barton, 62, was convicted in 2017 of five felony counts of forcible oral copulation and one felony count of forcible sodomy for allegedly molesting a cadet at the Army and Navy Academy beginning in 1999, when the alleged victim was 14 years old.Barton was sentenced to 48 years in state prison.A three-justice panel from the Fourth District Court of Appeal agreed with Barton's contentions that the trial judge should not have dismissed one of the jurors during the trial and reversed the conviction on Friday.RELATED: Appeals court reverses molestation conviction for former Carlsbad boarding school headAttorney John Manly, whose firm represents four alleged victims in civil suits filed against Barton and the academy, said, "We disagree with the ruling of the court of appeal. CEDAR PARK, TX — Three police officers were shot Sunday while responding to a call in Cedar Park, Texas, according to police.The three officers suffered non-fatal injuries while responding to the call on Sunday afternoon and are currently stable at a local hospital.The shooting began an hours-long standoff that lasted throughout the evening on Sunday and well into Monday morning. Two hostages were released from the home on Monday morning at about 8 a.m. CT. (KGTV) — A pair of brothers was arrested this week after police say they tried to carjack a man working on his vehicle on Interstate 5, assaulted him, and fled onto Camp Pendleton property.The brothers were traveling on southbound I-5 on Tuesday at about 10 a.m. when their Ford Mustang broke down just north of Las Pulgas Road. The pair walked to Vista Point and asked a truck driver for a ride to Long Beach, but the driver said no, California Highway Patrol said.The brothers then approached a 58-year-old man from San Diego who was working on his broken-down vehicle. The man was leaning over the engine of his vehicle with the hood up when one of the brothers placed the man in a headlock while the other brother assaulted the man in the face and body, CHP said.The truck driver who denied the brothers a lift saw the attack and came to the victim's aid. The brothers fled the area west, and climbed over a fence onto Camp Pendleton, said CHP.Camp Pendelton Police were nearby and quickly found and detained the two. CHP officers responded to the scene as well. The victim received moderate to major injuries during the assault and is expected to recover.Gonzalo Lopez, 24, and Eusebio Lopez, 19, both from Long Beach, were arrested and charged with assault and battery, and attempted carjacking. (KGTV) - The purchase of a dream home nearly turned into a nightmare for a Carlsbad family, as they narrowly avoided a costly escrow scam.In late July, Greg Shoman and his wife were just days from closing on a four-bedroom home when he thought he got an email from his escrow officer with wiring instructions for the down payment to be sent that day. In the email, the escrow officer said she was busy and could only talk by email, before sending him a calculation of the closing costs. "You see so many emails and documents during the process, and you start to become numb to it ... Everything on the email - from the masthead to the signature - looked like the emails we had been receiving from the escrow company during the process," said Shoman.Shoman went to his bank to wire the money. His bank happened to be the same bank the money was to be transferred to, and the bank confirmed the routing number matched a non-business account in Wisconsin, not a California escrow company. After a call to the real escrow company, he learned the emails were fakes."Surprised and angry, and then ultimately relieved you didn't give away several hundred thousand dollars," said Shoman. Shoman isn't alone. According to the FBI, Americans lost 0 million to real estate fraud last year. In many cases, the scammer identifies pending home sales through the MLS and real estate sites and hacks the emails of someone involved in the sale, before sending out false wiring instructions."Be aware, be vigilant, and call your escrow company. Don't be afraid to triple check," said Shoman's realtor, Ilana Huff of Pacific Sotheby's.Shoman says the FBI is investigating his case.
