Counterfeit items are being sold by third-party vendors on the top ecommerce sites, according to the U.S. Government Accountability Office. The GAO released a study Tuesday showing that even top online merchants such as Amazon and Walmart are subject to having counterfeit items posted on their sites. In some cases, the counterfeits can be harmful, the GAO reported.  The GAO purchased 47 items — a mixture of shoes, travel mugs, cosmetics and phone chargers. The items were bought from third-party sellers on Walmart, eBay, Amazon, Sears Marketplace and Newegg. Of the 47 items, 20 were counterfeit, including all 13 of the Urban Decay cosmetics purchased. "From travel mugs to cosmetics, counterfeit goods harm the U.S. economy and can pose a threat to consumers," the GAO reported.  829

Court of Claims Judge Christopher Murray has issued a preliminary injunction that stops the ban on open carry guns at polls in Michigan.The ban directive was issued by the Michigan secretary of state to prevent voter intimidation.An attorney for the state argued before the judge this afternoon that the ban was issued because of open carry protests inside and outside of the state capitol over the governor's COVID-19 lockdown orders and the criminal case against 14 men in an alleged plan to kidnap Gov. CLEVELAND, Ohio — People taking care of elderly loved ones who receive Social Security benefits may not know to what they are entitled."This money belongs to us...the social security recipient,” said Don Wright, who is nothing if not passionate about his mission now to help others.“It’s our money!” he said.Reporters with E.W. Scripps television station WEWS in Cleveland, asked Wright: “Do you think many people know about this?”“No. No. That is sad,” he replied.Wright is from Akron, Ohio. He was married to a woman for 16 years. They divorced and later she passed away.In 2009, Wright said he filed for his Social Security benefits, talking with a staff member at the Akron office."He said this famous statement. ‘Well, who do you want to collect your benefits from?’” Wright said. The man offered him either his own benefits or his ex-wife's benefits."What he should have said was 'Well, you know you're entitled to collect your survivor widower's benefits first,’" Wright said.It wasn't until 2016 when some friends told Wright to look into the survivor benefits."Social security, I found out in my investigation, does not willfully just hand out a bunch of information for you to know," Wright said.He told us from that first meeting with the Akron office in 2009 until 2016, he was entitled to 7 to 8 years of the survivor benefits and more. However, after fighting for that money, he got a message from an attorney's office on his answering machine saying he might get six months to a year of benefits."The average person would think Social Security said, 'You're done! There's no way in the world you can get anything else.’ Well, that's not true,” Wright said.Reporters at WEWS found in the social security Code of Federal Regulations, there's an admission that agents "may have given you misinformation about your eligibility for such benefits ... Which caused you not to file an application at that time." It even gives examples that are similar to Wright’s claims."You don't always get that correct answer right off (the bat),” said Marcia Margolius, who is an attorney and a social security law expert. She works in Cleveland."We have to encourage people continuously to persevere, to follow up on their rights,” Margolius said.Marcia said she's experienced plenty of social security roadblocks."It's a weeding out sort-of a policy where social security may take the attitude of, if you're serious and if your claim is legitimate, you're going to keep going," she said."Is it a strategy by social security?” a WEWS reporter asked.“I wouldn't go that far…but I have seen it a lot,” Margolius said.Wright said another hurdle was when social security gave him a list of lawyers to help him through the process. He wrote letters to those attorneys only to have many returned to sender. We saw the envelopes marked “no such number,” “address vacant” and “not deliverable.”"And I kept getting all these dead ends and nobody to help me,” Wright said.WEWS investigative reporters contacted the Social Security Administration. A representative said if Wright signed a consent form, then the rep could talk to us about his case. Wright did that. Customers of Comcast’s Xfinity internet service in many states may find that they will be charged if they use a lot of internet at home.The news comes as many Americans are working, schooling and using the internet to watch TV programs through the internet.Comcast will begin limiting many customers to 1.2 terabytes of internet data per month before charging overages. Beginning in December, Comcast says it will begin offering an unlimited plan for customers who plan to use that much data. For most customers who rent a gateway from Comcast, an unlimited plan would cost an additional a month, while most other customers would pay an additional a month. Comcast will implement the plans for customers in the states of CT, DE, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, parts of NC, NY, parts of OH, PA, VA, VT, WV, and the District of Columbia.The cap will not apply to the Gigabit Pro tier of service or business internet customers.For those who use more than 1.2 terabytes of data per month, Comcast will charge for every 50 gigabytes of additional data. The overages will be capped at 0 per month.Comcast says it will notify customers when they're nearing their data limit, and will send those notifications at 75%, 90% and 100% usage.Comcast says only 5% of its customers exceed 1.2 terabytes of data per month. Before the pandemic, Comcast suspended caps on internet usage as more Americans began using the internet for work and school.Those who stream TV might be most likely to go over the cap. According to Netflix, one hour of video can use up to 7 gigabytes of data. Someone who streams six hours a day without using any additional internet could use up an entire month’s worth of data. However, Comcast refutes those estimates and says that 1.2 terabytes cover as many as 500 hours of streaming video. Costco has updated its COVID-19 face mask policy.The wholesale club said beginning Monday, everyone, excluding children under the age of 2, must wear a face mask or face shield, even those with medical conditions."Members and guests must wear a face mask that covers their mouth and nose at all times. Individuals who are unable to wear a face mask due to a medical condition must wear a face shield. Children under the age of 2 are exempt. Entry to Costco will be granted only to those wearing a face mask or face shield," Costco stated on its Updates and Coronavirus Response page.The original policy, which went into effect in May, didn't require those with a medical condition to wear a mask.In a letter to members, President and CEO Craig Jelinek said that although some might see the updated policy may be inconvenient, its shoppers' safety is worth the inconvenience."Our goal is to continue to provide a safe shopping environment for our members and guests, and to provide a safe work environment for our employees," Jelinek said in the letter.Costco added that for those who cannot wear a mask or shield, delivery options are available on its website. 1168
