The U.S. Department of Justice is at polling locations in 19 states to ensure federal voting rights laws are being followed. There are also thousands of people with civil rights and voting advocacy groups watching the polls. But this year, the county election officer, citing construction projects, decided to move to a different location that is four miles away. The new location is outside city limits, and there’s no access to sidewalks and it’s cut off from public transportation.The ACLU sued Dodge City, asking a judge to force the county to open a second polling location for the town's 27,000 residents. A judge denied the request, so the ACLU emailed election officer Debbie Cox, asking for help publicizing a voter help line.The Wichita Eagle reported that Cox then sent that on to the Secretary of State's office, adding “LOL” to the email.So, volunteers like Jose Vargas, Marilyn Horsch and Rita Schweitz are offering bus rides from the old location to the new one to ensure voters get to the poll. They rented a bus to shuttle voters to ensure they’d be able to cast their votes. 1682

The Trump campaign has dropped a lawsuit in Arizona in which they were requesting a review of ballots cast on Election Day.The lawsuit was filed Saturday and claimed some voters were worried their ballots didn’t count correctly if the machines classified a race as “overvoted”, where more than one selection was made by mistake.A judge in Phoenix held a six-hour evidentiary hearing Thursday in the case. Later that night, CNN reports, the lawyer for the Trump campaign revised their earlier request and said they would only seek a review of vote counts if the number of “overvotes” exceeded the margin of victory.In paperwork filed with the court Friday morning, the secretary of state and officials with Maricopa County noted that the difference in votes between President-elect Joe Biden and President Donald Trump is 11,414 votes, with 10,315 ballots left to be counted.They also said 191 votes classified as “overvotes” in the presidential race, and they said that number is consistent with previous elections.Friday, lawyers for President Trump’s reelection campaign dropped the lawsuit, filing a notice of “partial mootness” with the court."Since the close of yesterday's hearing, the tabulation of votes statewide has rendered unnecessary a judicial ruling as to the presidential electors," wrote Kory Langhofer, a lawyer for the Trump campaign, in court papers. The Trump administration has closed the Washington Monument because of a recent visit by Interior Secretary David Bernhardt, who tested positive this week for the coronavirus. Interior spokesman Nicholas Goodwin says a couple of monument workers were quarantined as a result of Bernhardt's visit, forcing a staffing shortage and the monument's closure. The Interior Department announced Bernhardt's positive test result for the coronavirus on Wednesday. An advocacy group for parks criticized Bernhardt, saying he had failed to safeguard park employees overall during the pandemic. From Oct. 1 to Dec. 1, the 7-day average of reported COVID-19 deaths has more than doubled from 705 to 1,520. The rise in deaths mirrors a frightening rise in COVID-19 cases. According to the COVID Tracking Project, the U.S. has recorded at least 100,000 new cases of the virus every day since Nov. 3. Since that time, the rolling 7-day average of new cases has nearly doubled from about 85.000 a day to about 159,000 a day.And health experts expect deaths and caseloads to further increase in the coming weeks.
