In the wake of recent fatal pedestrian crashes, a law firm commissioned a study that reveals the most dangerous intersections for pedestrians in San Diego.In 2016, there were 103 pedestrian fatalities in San Diego County. Between 2010 and 2016, a total of 430 people were killed and nearly 8,000 injured in pedestrian crashes.According to the law firm Estey and Bomberger, the most dangerous intersection in San Diego lies in Hillcrest at the intersection of First Avenue and University Avenue.The below map shows the cities with the highest numbers of dangerous intersections in California. Infectious disease experts say the threat of superbugs is growing. They're bacteria that have evolved so that existing medications no longer work to treat infections.“This is made worse by the overuse and inappropriate use of antibiotics and it has become a crisis here in the United States and around the world,” said Dr. Helen Boucher, Chief of Infectious Disease at Tufts Medical Center.Boucher says antibiotic-resistant bacteria can affect treatment for patients with skin infections or cause urinary tract infections in otherwise healthy women.Superbugs are also well-known for their presence in hospitals, causing serious problems, like pneumonia.That's a big issue amid the pandemic, because hospitalized COVID-19 patients may face getting a secondary infection, putting them at a greater risk of dying.Boucher says the emerging threat of superbugs has gotten to the point where physicians have had to tell some patients their infection can't be treated because there's no effective antibiotic. That could mean a denial for an organ transplant or chemotherapy.“And that is nothing that any of us in the infectious disease business ever, ever want to face,” said Boucher. “And we know that if don't continue to advocate and act and really change this problem, that could get worse.”Boucher is working with the Partnership to Fight Infectious Disease to advocate for change in Congress.She says people should make sure to take any prescribed antibiotics appropriately and talk to their doctor about how much is truly necessary. 1540

INDIANAPOLIS -- A splash of color painted the streets of Vice President Mike Pence's hometown of Columbus, Indiana on Saturday as the town hosted its first-ever Pride Festival. The colorful event featured live music, food and even a drag competition. This small town festival made big news because hometown boy, Vice President Mike Pence is known for being a conservative Christian who signed the 2015 religious protections law that created a legal defense for businesses that objected to serving LGBTQ customers. Columbus High School senior Erin Bailey, 18, came up with the idea and helped bring it to life. INDIANAPOLIS -- Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a 1-year-old Indianapolis girl.The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department tweeted the news about the arrest Wednesday morning. Darrin Banks, 27, and Brian Palmer, 29, were arrested for their involvement in the shooting. Malaysia Robson was killed when gunfire struck her home on the 3500 block of Wittfield Avenue on March 30.  445

It's likely that a Sacramento sheriff's deputy who struck a protester with a patrol SUV Saturday night didn't realize he had hit someone, Sheriff Scott Jones said during a press conference Monday.The patrol SUV struck a woman as she and others gathered in the street to denounce the killing of Stephon Clark, then left the scene, according to video of the incident. The woman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department."I haven't spoken to the officer about the incident, I'm not even sure that his statement has been taken," Jones said, adding that there has been no change to the deputy's duties at this point during this investigation.
