CHICAGO (AP) — Americans are more unhappy today than they’ve been in nearly 50 years.That's according to the COVID Response Tracking Study, conducted in late May by NORC at the University of Chicago.The survey finds that just 14% of American adults say they’re very happy, down from 31% who said the same in 2018.The survey draws on nearly a half-century of research from the General Social Survey, which has collected data on American attitudes and behaviors at least every other year since 1972.No less than 29% of Americans have ever called themselves very happy in that survey.Researchers say the COVID-19 pandemic has led to two seemingly contrasting shift in public opinion: More Americans are unhappy and pessimistic about the future than in previous decades, but more are relatively satisfied financially.“In combination, these results suggest that people are comparing their finances to that of fellow Americans hurt by the economic fallouts from the pandemic while contrasting their happiness to their own mood prior to the outbreak,” the study says. 1068

(KGTV) - Wednesday kids tried out for the reboot of Kids Say the Darndest Things during a casting call at Legoland.Some families were selected as they entered or left Legoland, while other families sought out the try-outs.Representatives say hundreds of children were interviewed to see if they are a good fit for the national show, hosted by Tiffany Haddish.The kids, age 4-11, waited in a tent with their parents to be called in. "They come in and let it go and it is just the most hilarious thing ever," Casting Producer Cevin Middleton said. She was very concerned about putting on the microphone for the interview, saying she thought she might get "electrified." CARLSBAD (CNS) - A train struck and killed a pedestrian this afternoon at a coastal northern San Diego County rail depot, authorities reported.The fatality at Carlsbad Village Train Station on State Street in Carlsbad occurred about 2:30 p.m., according to sheriff's officials.The victim, whose name, age and gender were not immediately available, died at the scene, Lt. Christopher Collier said.Northbound and southbound Coaster train runs were suspended in the area until further notice due to the death, North County Transit District officials advised. (KGTV) — Legoland California's massive "Star Wars" section of the park's Miniland area will depart for a galaxy far, far away next year.The park said the area will make way for something new eventually, but is tight-lipped on what guests can expect to take the attraction's place. Guests have until Jan. 6, 2020 to visit the themed display."We’re always creating new adventures for our guests and excited to bring new experiences in the upcoming years.
