Instagram flagged Madonna's account for misinformation on Tuesday evening after she shared a COVID-19 conspiracy video that's been widely debunked by fact-checkers and medical professionals. The post included the same video shared by President Donald Trump and his son, Don Jr. The clip shows doctors falsely claiming that masks are not needed to prevent the spread of the coronavirus and advocates for the use of hydroxychloroquine — a drug which is no longer authorized for emergency use with COVID-19.“The truth will set us all Free! But some people dont want to hear the truth,” Madonna wrote in her caption, according to Vulture.Madonna also falsely claimed the caption of her post that a COVID-19 vaccine had already been created but had not been released in order to "let the rich get richer."Instagram initially blurred the video and included a caption declaring the content contained "false information." The message included an independent fact-check that disputed the false claims in the video.Shortly after Instagram flagged the video as false, Madonna deleted the post from her page.Facebook and YouTube removed the video from its platforms as it began to go viral on Sunday night. On Tuesday, Twitter briefly locked Donald Trump Jr.'s account from performing certain functions after he shared the video.Earlier this year, Madonna proclaimed COVID-19 to be the "great equalizer" in an Instagram video shot in her bathtub. In May said she tested positive for COVID-19 antibodies, at which point she said she was going to go for a drive to “breathe in the COVID-19 air.” 1588
Iran warned the US on Sunday that abandoning the nuclear deal would be a "historic mistake," less than one week before President Donald Trump is set to make a decision on the pact.In a televised speech, President Hassan Rouhani said Iran had plans for "whatever decision is made by Trump" and that "when it comes to weapons and defending our country, we will not negotiate with anybody."His comments come days before the May 12 deadline for Trump to decide whether or not to continue waiving sanctions on Iran that were lifted under the deal, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action. 608
INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indianapolis lawyer is accused of flashing a bus carrying a girls' basketball team on two separate occasions while driving. Norwell High School girls’ basketball coach Eric Thornton said he was driving the girls to a tournament in June when a man pulled up beside their bus on I-70 near the airport and exposed himself. “He knew it was a school bus,” said Thornton. “(He) knew it was high school aged females on the bus.”The man, who police have identified as Raymond Fairchild, then exited the highway before the team could get the license plate on his Honda CRV. “The girls were horrified and just very disturbed,” said Thornton. In an attempt to identify the alleged flasher, Thornton posted a photo taken moments before the incident on social media. That post made its way to Union City where a second girls’ basketball team reported a similar incident last February – from what appeared to be the same man. “Once we found out that he’d done it before it was obvious this was a pattern,” said Thornton. It didn’t take long before someone on Facebook recognized that man as Fairchild and contacted investigators. The 71-year-old is listed as having a law office in downtown Indianapolis. “He should never be allowed to practice law again in my opinion,” said Thornton. “He should be put away for a time.”Fairchild now faces six counts of public nudity and indecency charges. His first court appearance is set for October 26. “It’s a crime against innocent, na?ve girls who just saw abnormal behavior and had no idea what would happen next,” said Thornton. “He needs to be severely punished for his behavior.” 1669
It's official: The NBA is coming back on Dec. 22.The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association have struck a deal on rules for this coming season, setting the stage for what will be a frenzied few weeks before games resume. Teams will play a 72-game schedule, with the league announcing the full regular-season and broadcast schedules at a later date. The league said a new system would be used to ensure that the split of basketball-related income continues, one of the many details that had to be collectively bargained with the union because the current agreement between the sides had a great deal of language needed reworking because of the coronavirus pandemic.Teams will be able to negotiate with free agents beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Nov. 20, and at 12:01 p.m. ET on Nov. 22, teams will be able to sign them, the league announced in a press release. The league said the salary cap and tax level would remain the same heading into the new season. During the 2019-20 season, the cap was 9.14 million, with the tax level at 2,627,000."A new system will be used to ensure the parties' agreed-upon split of basketball-related income (BRI)," the league said in the news release. "In the event, player compensation were to exceed the players' designated share in any season, necessary salary reductions beyond the standard 10 percent escrow would be spread across that season and potentially the following two seasons, subject to a maximum salary reduction in any season of 20 percent."This season, teams will not be playing in a bubble, so health and safety protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic will need to be worked out as teams will be traveling from city to city once again.Last season ended on Oct. 10, so the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat will only have rested seven weeks before they start training camp on Dec. 1. 1856
