That means more packaging, and it tends to come with more waste," said Nilmini Silva-Send, a researcher with the Equinox Project.San Diego County's disposal rate is among the highest in the state.More trash means more greenhouse gasses released and less landfill space. As for the biggest trash makers, Del Mar comes in at more than 17 pounds per person, followed by Coronado and Carlsbad. The Del Mar Fairgrounds and Naval Base Coronado are among several possible factors. "The higher the socioeconomic level, the more waste they will tend to produce," said Silva-Send. The cities tossing the least amount of trash per person are Oceanside, Chula Vista, and Imperial beach. The biggest increase for trash disposal happened in Santee, while the biggest year-to-year decreases were in Imperial Beach and National City. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, San Diego County supervisors met privately to discuss options if the county is moved back into the most restrictive tier.Although the meeting is taking place behind closed doors, it's not stopping them from sharing their frustrations publicly.At a press conference on Monday morning, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher called the actions of two of his fellow board members reckless and irresponsible."Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristin Gaspar are inciting a fight between government and small business," Fletcher stated. “They are exploiting the pain and suffering the small businesses are going through as a result of the global pandemic as a wedge for political gain."Responding to the statements made at the press conference, Supervisor Kristin Gaspar said that she's never supported an approach to reopening that was not supported by the Public Health Officer and clinical leadership team.In a statement, Gaspar wrote, "Supervisor Fletcher knows this but prefers to continue spreading this false narrative because he is actively running a campaign against me. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — More than one million of the 1.95 million mail-in ballots sent to San Diego registered voters have been returned, according to the county.The County Registrar of Voters said Friday they've received more than a million mail-in ballots back with four days left until Election Day.The Registrar said at the same time before the 2016 Presidential election, the county had only received 442,802 ballots back.Saturday, the county opened polling locations from Saturday, Oct. 31 through Monday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. All locations will be open again on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.Residents can locate their polling place online here. Voters can also check the back of their sample ballots and voter information pamphlets for assigned polling places.Anyone casting their ballot in person will be required to wear a face covering and to maintain physical distance at polling locations.Poll workers will have a face mask for anyone who forgets to bring on.
