Then, once they are done, they begin making payments based on their income for 36 to 60 months. Graduates make payments of 6% to 8% of their annual salary only if they are earning at least ,000. The money goes back into the fund that pays for the next group of cohorts. "With a student loan you're paying that back regardless of whether or not you are securing a job upon graduation," said Adrienne Chuck, an Income Share Agreement Analyst with the San Diego Workforce Partnership. "With an Income Share Agreement, you only pay it back if you secure a job and get a minimum salary."No student will ever pay more than ,800, according to the program's website.According to UCSD Extension, the programs currently offered cost ,875 for Java Programming, ,775 for database management, and ,400 for user experience design. Those prices exclude textbooks and other course materials. "We know that upskilling and training in particular fields with a particular skill set is something that industry is willing to pay for, and that really is the role of extension, to ensure that San Diego and California and the nation as a whole, individuals are getting trained for those skills that industry is looking for," said Josh Shapiro, assistant dean of innovation and research affairs at UCSD Extension. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The ridesharing company, Lyft, is donating hundreds of thousands of dollars in ride credits to immigration groups throughout the country, including one in San Diego County. The company made the donation announcement on Monday, donating 0,000, calling the campaign "America is an Idea, Not a Geography." The Minority Humanitarian Foundation in Spring Valley received roughly ,000 in ride credits. The foundation's founder, Mark Lane, says the company's donation is a game changer for his organization. Lane explains that the money previously spent on rides can now go towards other things like food, clothing and other supplies. 10News spoke to multiple Lyft drivers in San Diego who said they wouldn't mind providing rides to migrants, as long as their pay didn't change. A few Lyft users told 10News they don't agree with Lyft's donation but said they would still continue to use the service.During the month of July, Lyft is also matching donations to RAICES up to ,000. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — There is new frustration for San Diegans trying to cutback their spending amid coronavirus restrictions.Some companies are refusing to freeze automatic renewals despite being closed. That's leading to resentment as workers across the county face layoffs, furloughs and reduced hours. Amanda Sullivan, a mental health professional, says she's still being billed a month for her 24 Hour Fitness membership, despite the gym shuttered. 24 Hour Fitness promises instead to add the lost time to the end of her membership. "It feels like robbery," she said. "We're taking your money, you can't do anything about it, we're telling you this is what we're offering, we'll just tack on time at the end."Sullivan said her emails to 24 Hour Fitness have gone largely ignored, or she's received boilerplate responses. Meanwhile, 24 Hour Fitness has shuttered its call center. In a statement, the gym stood by its decision, noting it also made available its subscription app that includes exercise instruction."24 Hour Fitness is focused on the continued health and safety of our club members, team members and guests. With that in mind, we have made some difficult decisions to ensure our ability to provide services to our club members and sustain our business over the long term," the statement said.The coronavirus shutdowns have prompted a variety of responses from membership-based businesses.While 24 hour is billing as normal, other gyms, like CorePower, OrangeTheory and Chuze have frozen fees. LA Fitness will only keep billing if a club reopens in the San Diego market by April 1.The San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld say they will extend annual passes to make up for the lost time. Spokespeople for both parks say additional questions should be directed to customer service. Consumer attorney Frederick Schenk, of CaseyGerry, says each subscription contract is different but he says it's always worth a phone call to ask for a refund. "I'm finding that vendors are working with their customers to come to terms with this horrible dilemma," Schenk said. "We're all facing it, and we have to face it together. So if a vendor thinks that it's going to take advantage of its members it will find in the not-too-distant future it will have lost that member and many others."Michael Weiner, a consumer attorney with Slate Law Group, said it is difficult to analyze situations without seeing individual contracts, but in general a consumer would appear to be on strong legal footing if he or she is being billed for something they aren't getting. Weiner suggested reaching out to corporate, and posting on social media if things don't change. "If they were still rebuffed, there are multiple avenues to take, from hiring counsel to speak to the company on their behalf, to filing a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the local San Diego Chamber of Commerce," Weiner said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego City Attorney's Office has filed charges against a man accused of harassing multiple women at a Mission Valley shopping center.Three misdemeanor charges were filed against Orlando Chavez of San Diego, including two for false imprisonment, and one for criminal assault and battery. The City Attorney's Office says Chavez held some women against their will by climbing under their cars and refusing to come out.City officials say Chavez would approach most of his victims in a shopping center at 10330 Friars Rd. In one instance, he reportedly grabbed one woman by the arm and told her, “You can flatten me out any time.” The City Attorney's official initially indicated the incidents took place at Westfield Mission Valley, but later said that was incorrect.In another instance, he reportedly followed a woman into her workplace, and approached another victim as she waited to pick up her children at school. City officials say police investigated him for stalking that woman for nearly two years and slashing the tires of her husband’s car."Everyone has the right to feel safe when going to work, shopping, or picking up their children at school," City Attorney Mara Elliott said. "As City Attorney, I take seriously threatening and harassing behaviors like this and will hold accountable individuals who endanger the safety of any San Diegan."Investigators added that Chavez, 72, has a history of crawling under women's vehicles to prevent them from leaving dating back to 2018.In multiple incidents, he was seen driving a white Chevrolet truck, with a personalized license plate reading HINUF.
