SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A legendary sports radio station is returning to Southern California airwaves with an updated name.The Mighty 1090 abruptly went off the air on April 10, 2019, due to an issue between the station’s parent company and the owners of the Mexico-based radio tower that distributes the station’s signal.But on Monday, Aug. 17, the station once known as the Mighty 1090 will be back on the 1090 AM radio dial as "The Mightier 1090.”Bill Hagen of Mightier 1090 said in a news release, “It’s taken a tireless amount of work from a number of great people to get us to this point. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Pacific Beach bartender was sucker-punched by a man he said refused to wear a face mask.Tony Aversa, bar lead at 710 Beach Club, said he was working on Saturday, Sept. 5, when he noticed a confrontation at the door around 7 p.m.He says he walked over to the three men and, "I just asked them to please put on a mask and I'll happily help you with whatever you need ... The guy just refused and continued to argue blatantly within inches of my face with no mask on."A female bartender walked over and Aversa said the man shoved her, so he put himself between the man and his coworker.That's when Aversa said another member of the combative group came running."He was walking away at the time and came running back down the sidewalk and blind-sided me with a punch ... Immediately, you could tell my nose was broken, I was gushing blood and I knew immediately what had happened, I kinda spun around and asked one of my employees to call the cops," Aversa said.He said an officer was there within a few minutes and walked with him, finding one of the men. Bystanders said the man who threw the punch got into a car and sped off.Police describe the man as Pacific Islander, 6'2", 260 lbs., with curly brown hair, and wearing a white t-shirt and dark basketball shorts.When we asked if Aversa had anything to say to the man, he said no. "I just want to see him put to justice at this point," says Aversa.Aversa will be seeing a surgeon later this week for his broken nose. The Port of San Diego this week approved a 10-year lease with the owners and operators of Carnitas Snack Shack, Broken Yolk, and Little Italy food hall to open a new kind of restaurant at Seaport Village.The new restaurant, which will be on the east end of the property, will have a "Sam the Cooking Guy" concept. Sam Zien, also known as Sam the Cooking Guy, is a celebrity chef who aims to make cooking more down-to-earth, using ingredients that come from the everyday supermarket. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A Hillcrest man is still recovering in the hospital after he says he was attacked, leaving him with a head injury and partial paralysis.Ricky Jackle says he was walking with a friend on Robinson Avenue in Hillcrest October 14.“I was out with a friend of mine. Had a few drinks at The Rail.” According to Jackle, that’s when the assault took place.“Last thing I remember, there was a confrontation between the person I was with and somebody else. I tried to get in the middle of it to stop in. I was pushed on my chest, went backwards and hit my head on the curb. Apparently that’s when I bled out. I heard voices, by friend’s voice behind me,” said Jackle.Jackle says after the incident, his friend fled the scene.In tears, Jackle describes how the assault has changed his life. “I can’t work, I can’t do the things I used to do. I’m scared.”“I don’t think anyone should be attacked or a victim like I was, I don’t think it’s right.”While under observation at the hospital, Jackle began to feel numbness in his hands and arms which resulted in loss of movement in his hands, arms and legs, according to a GoFundMe post.“The injury caused swelling which compressed his spinal cord resulting in loss of movment [sic] and some paralysis,” according to the post.Jackle’s cousin, Derrick Roach spoke about the friend who left Jackle following the attack. “He said the reason I left Ricky is with all the blood I thought he was dead. Why would you leave someone in that condition?”Friends and family members are still searching for the suspect in the alleged attack. The incident left Jackle with 0,000 in medical bills.
