SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police spent several hours Sunday trying to talk a man down after he climbed Belmont Park's Giant Dipper roller coaster and refused to come down.Police said officers and San Diego Fire-Rescue personnel were called just before 1:30 p.m. to reports of an 18-year-old male who had climbed the amusement park's fence and up to the top of the coaster. SDPD's Psychiatric Emergency Response Team spent several hours trying to talk the man down.The man came down from the roller coaster around 7:45 p.m., before grabbing a tarp and making his way back up. Shortly after 8:30 p.m., he crossed over to a nearby roof. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Students and staff at Morse High School may have been exposed to tuberculosis, according to the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. According to the agency, the periods of exposure were from June 17 to July 26 during summer school, then again from August 26 to September 10. Health officials and the San Diego Unified School District are working to notify those who may have been exposed. Testing will be provided on September 24 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Morse High School for students identified as potentially exposed. The district is providing testing to staff who may have been exposed. Tuberculosis is transmitted from person to person through indoor air during prolonged contact with someone who is infected. “It is important that we identify those who have had prolonged close contact in an enclosed space with the TB case and test them since the initial infection usually has no symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “Early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent the infectious form of the disease.”Symptoms of TB include persistent cough, fever, night sweats and unexplained weight loss. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven families are suing the company that runs the San Diego County Fair after they say members of their family contracted E. coli traced to the fair's livestock last summer.The lawsuit alleges the 22nd District Agricultural Association, which runs the annual fair and the fairgrounds, was negligent in its handling of the petting zoo area, failed to safely guard guests and warn of risks, properly inspect and clean, and screen animals at 2019's fair."People were getting sick all the way from June 8th to June 22nd, at least," said attorney Ben Coughlan, who is representing the plaintiffs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some San Diegans are pushing back against the county’s order to wear face coverings in public.The face coverings requirement in San Diego County -- prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic -- has been in effect since early May, but in other California counties, rules are starting to change.Last week, Orange County officials decided to roll back their mandate and only “strongly recommended” that masks be worn in public settings.Riverside and San Bernardino counties have also relaxed their respective mask mandates.“It's a hard thing to draw the lines. There’s human nature, there’s a concern about such a ramp-up of state enforcement of things,” said University of St. Thomas Law School Professor Robert Kahn.Kahn, an expert in mask law and history, said one of the biggest issues is people are not used to taking orders from health officials.That feeling is evident in social media postings on pages like Reopen San Diego on Facebook, where there is a growing push to rescind San Diego’s mask mandate.Many health officials still agree that face coverings can block transmission of the respiratory droplets released by people when breathing or talking.During a Monday press briefing, San Diego County Public Health Officer Wilma Wooten said, “Every jurisdiction is different, but San Diego will continue mandatory face coverings.”Kahn said no matter what rules or laws government might put in place, people will ultimately have to abide by what businesses want their customers to do.“Businesses will make their decision; private business, free enterprise understands this,” he said.Orange County’s public health officer resigned rather than remove the county’s mask order.
