SAN ONOFRE (CNS) - A man drove a stolen van onto the grounds of the now- idled San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station and claimed to have explosives in the vehicle, drawing a response from the San Diego County sheriff's bomb squad, which determined that there was no danger, authorities said Wednesday.The driver, 27-year-old Erik Jon Norman, was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicle theft, San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Pamela Wotkyns said.Sheriff's deputies went to the nuclear station a little after 4:20 p.m. Tuesday after security officers reported that Norman drove a white delivery van past the entrance gate and into a restricted parking lot, Wotkyns said. The security guards quickly detained Norman, but he told them the van contained electronic equipment and "possible explosives."The sheriff's department's bomb/arson unit was called to the scene but determined the van contained no explosives, only standard shipping parcels, Wotkyns said. Deputies later discovered the van was reported stolen earlier in the day from Oceanside and arrested Norman, taking him to the Vista Detention Center where he remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of ,000 bail. 1178

(KGTV) — A man was arrested after deputies say he fled the scene of a San Marcos crash and was stopped by passersby from leaving a second crash scene.San Diego Sheriff's deputies received a report of a beige Mercedes-Benz traveling at an unsafe speed on northbound Bennett Ave. before is ran off the road and collided with a concrete wall and then a residence at 600 Bennett Ave.The driver, a 26-year-old man, tried to flee the area, but was detained by passerbys until deputies arrived.While deputies were responding to that incident, SDSO says they received another call about a black, male suspect wearing camouflage clothing who had used a hatchet to smash the window of a vehicle at a Stater Brothers Grocery store at 1330 East Mission Rd. The man reportedly fled in a vehicle matching the description of the Mercedes-Benz and struck a gray Audi in the area of Knob Hill Rd., SDSO said. The driver of the Audi, a 61-year-old woman, was not injured. At the scene of the Bennett Ave. crash, paramedic treated the suspect at the scene and he was released. Based on evidence and interviews, deputies determined that the suspect was under the influence of prescription medication and heavily intoxicated at the time of the collision. The man was later arrested for driving under the influence, vandalism, and leaving the scene of an accident.SDSO's traffic division is investigating the crime. 1420

(KGTV) - Several immigrants' rights groups allege harassment and one man says he was strip-searched by Customs and Border Protection agents.The Southern Poverty Law Center, the Center for Constitutional Rights, and the American Immigration Council filed a motion requesting more information from the U.S. government regarding the detention of the Director of Al Otro Lado, calling their acts retaliation for helping asylum seekers.Hugo Castro, Director of Border Angels, Tijuana, spoke with 10News about his experience last December."I was sent to secondary for no reason," Castro said. He was in Mexicali for a doctor's appointment when he was detained by a CBP officer."The officer searched me, said I didn't have a weapon and was trying to grab me and I said hey, you don't need to grab me, just tell me what to do," He said the next 5 hours were unnerving. "They took my cellphone... after that they searched me, body search, and took off my shoes and look all around my, through my pants and underwear," he said looking at the ground.Castro said he was interrogated about migrants and the immigration rights' group Al Otro Lado."You know, if I was part of the caravan the organizers. If we were paying migrants, if we were helping migrants to cross the border."Castro said he explained to the officer he helps bring donations to nine shelters in Tijuana.
