SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State University has suspended over a dozen fraternities after a student who attended a reported fraternity event was hospitalized this week with unknown injuries.SDSU President Adela de la Torre suspended Interfraternity Council (IFC) activities citing the "severity of the incident" following the alleged fraternity event Wednesday night, a statement from the school read."Given the severity of this incident, and as the safety and wellbeing of students is a primary concern of the university, SDSU President Adela de la Torre has suspended the Interfraternity Council (IFC) and all chapter organizations under the council," an SDSU media relations officer said Friday.SDSU clarified Saturday that a campus fraternity is "alleged to have been involved in possible misconduct" in the Wednesday event.Prior to Wednesday, the school says six IFC organizations were under suspension and four were under investigation, leading to de la Torre's decision. The suspension affects all 14 IFC fraternities with more than 1,400 members. She said his mouth was foaming, his lips were purple and his skin was yellowing. The student was taken to a nearby hospital, police said."University Police officers quickly arrived to the location of the incident and provided appropriate aid. The student was then transported to a San Diego area hospital," San Diego State University Police Department said.According to university officials, they believe the student had attended a fraternity event the night he fell off his bed.The school did not comment on the student's condition. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego State says 120 more confirmed and probably coronavirus cases have been reported in the school's off- and on-campus student population.The new cases bring SDSU's total student COVID-19 count to 184 cases since the fall semester began last week.The school says county health officials it investigating "multiple clusters" of coronavirus cases among students in the university community, including a previously announced outbreak on Wednesday.RELATED: San Diego State moves all classes online for 4 weeks as student cases riseOfficials say among the cases, 14 groups have been identified within different locations. Some of these groups may eventually be linked to outbreaks.SDSU says none of the cases under investigation are related to on-campus educational activities, including classes or labs. No known cases have been reported in school faculty, staff, visitors, or vendors.The school advised that all undergraduates students who have attended gatherings or think they may have been exposed should get tested and isolate themselves. The county estimated that each SDSU student case averages 4.5 contacts each.“SDSU undergrads need to stay home within their living units this weekend and help us stop the spread within your campus community,” said Wilma Wooten, County public health officer. “If you have been to parties and social events, you need to get tested, now. And isolate until you get results.”Students can call 2-1-1 or their medical providers and stay home if they become ill. They may also contact Student Health Services at 619-594-4325 (Monday through Friday) or the Nurse Call Line at 858-225-3105 (after hours and during weekends and holidays). SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Since they got the call for help a week ago, San Diego Border Dreamers has been working around the clock to set up an emergency medical clinic in Tijuana.Board Director Milad Torabi says he's getting word migrants have conditions including fevers, rashes, blisters and bad sunburns. On a Go Fund Me, they're raising money for basic medical, first aid, and sanitary supplies.The advocacy group is partnering with two UC San Diego organizations which specialize in this area: Flying Samaritans and the International Health Collective.They're accepting monetary donations as well as medical supplies.San Diego Border Dreamers is also seeking doctors, nurses, medical students, acupuncturists, physical therapists and medical translators willing to volunteer their time. 799
