SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Rotating outages in San Diego are now over. All outages were cleared by 8 p.m. Friday, San Diego Gas & Electric told ABC 10News.For the first time in more than a decade, the electric company was ordered to conduct rotating, one-hour outages in San Diego and southern Orange Counties because of high electric use amid hot and humid temperatures.SDG&E says California Independent System Operator (CASIO) declared a "Stage 3" power emergency because "contingency reserves have fallen or are anticipated to fall below requirements and cannot be restored without service interruptions."SDG&E said that while rotating outages were widespread, communities in high fire threat districts were exempt.RELATED:San Diego County opens cool zones amid heatwaveLATEST 10NEWS PINPOINT WEATHER FORECASTSan Diegans coping with heatwave during pandemicTo see if you're affected, customers can check their SDG&E bill for circuit numbers and curtailment block numbers listed above the "last meter read date" on the front page or in their online account and compare those numbers with the company's list of affected areas here and below:CommunityBlockCircuitMission Valley25147Mira Mesa25229Mira Mesa25434Escondido E, Escondido NE25456Rancho Santa Fe S, Solana Beach5063El Cajon W5072La Mesa N, Mission Gorge5083Mira Mesa, Northcity West50831Mission Valley75382Rancho Del Rey75944Ortega75988Chula Vista W100258Point Loma N100740Vista S100850Lake Hodges S, Rancho Bernardo125291Torrey Pines125743Poway S125927Bay Park, Mission Bay150103Rancho Bernardo150290Del Mar, Northcity West, Solana Beach150512Laguna Hills, Laguna Nigel, Mission Viejo150768Escondido S, Escondido W175517Carlsbad175588Clairemont175775Dana Point, Laguna Nigel175797El Cajon E, Granite Hills, Lakeside200409San Ysidro200462Torrey Pines200745Clairemont, NAS-Miramar200774Bonita, Otay Mesa, Rancho Del Rey225590Mission Viejo, Ortega225986Carlsbad, Encinitas S2251117Fairbanks Ranch S, Northcity W, Rancho Bernardo25068Mira Mesa250438Center City250468El Cajon W, Granite Hils, Singing Hills275410Del Mar, Northcity West275510Casa De Oro, El Cajon W275548Fletcher Hills275947Mira Mesa275951La Jolla N, Torrey Pines30065Escondido NW, Escondido W, San Marcos E300188Laguna Hills, Laguna Nigel300561Fletcher Hills, La Mesa N300949During power shutoffs, SDG&E suggests customers turn off air conditioners and significantly reduce or avoid using other appliances and electric equipment. Refrigerator and freezer doors should also be kept closed and all unnecessary lighting should be turned off, health and safety permitting. The company suggested customers also reduce their water use due to the need for electricity to pump and process water. For electric vehicle owners, charging should be delayed if possible until after the emergency shutoffs, SDG&E said.SDG&E offers more safety tips to keep in mind during an outage here.Friday marked the first time since 2011 that California has ordered rolling power outages.According to SDG&E, the Flex Alert until Monday night was issued earlier to warn people to conserve energy, but because there wasn't enough energy conserved the state decided to issue rolling outages.SDG&E added that San Diego County's backcountry and rural areas will not be affected in the foreseeable future because they are high fire risk areas. The company warns that the weekend could potentially brig more rolling blackouts if the state decides to do so. 3480

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego has experienced one of its best whale watching seasons this year, thanks in part to plentiful amounts of food along the coast. As winter and spring gray whale watching die down, the summer season will bloom, giving way to Blue Whales feeding off our coast. Gray whale season typically takes places from mid-December to April, while blue whale season is around mid-June to September. So naturally, many residents and tourists will flock to the sea and coastline as whales flock to our waters for food. And the results can be astounding.RELATED: Humpback whale feeding frenzy off San Diego's coastBy land, San Diego has some prime viewing spots in Central and North County, according to Domenic Biagini, of San Diego Whale Watch. And if you're going by sea, Biagini says a little research can go a long way in finding a great experience. Here's some tips on how to best view natures gentle giants in San Diego, either by land or sea.By landWhile whale watching from the shore won't get viewers close to the animals, it is a cheaper alternative that can be just as fun.Cabrillo National Monument, Torrey Pines Glider Port, Sunset Cliffs, and Fletcher's Cove in Solana Beach are great spots to watch for sprouts of whales from shore, according to Biagini. At Cabrillo, viewers can head to Whale Overlook or the Old Point Loma Lighthouse to lookout for whales. In Torrey Pines, Sunset Cliffs, and Solana Beach, onlookers have a full coastline of areas to peer from.San Diego's Tourism Board also adds Birch Aquarium at Scripps as a prime viewing area. And a tip to remember: During the winter and spring seasons gray whales tend to feed closer to San Diego's shore than blue whales, Biagini says.By seaOne benefit of heading out on the water to whale watch, aside from getting closer, is having San Diego's skyline in the background. Also, you may encounter other life roaming around whales as they feed.Whale watching journeys are offered around San Diego, but there are some things to watch out for before picking a company. Biagini recommends checking on what a company has seen already before booking a trip."If they’ve been seeing a lot of animals that’s your best bet to have a good experience, and if the company isn’t posting their sightings they’re either not a serious company, or not seeing anything," Biagini said. "Honestly, just for companies that publish their daily sightings."Most whale watching companies will update their websites to reflect what they're seeing on the waters, some daily. San Diego's Tourism Board provides a list of companies to research if you plan to hit our coastal waters. And, of course, if you plan to take in some whale watching on the waters, read up on the Marine Mammal Protection Act beforehand so as not to put whales, dolphins, and other life at risk. 2827

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Recent changes at the border are being felt as President Trump considers a total border shutdown to combat the immigration crisis. Customs and Border Protection officials announced the reduction of the commercial lanes at Otay Mesa from 10 lanes to 8 Tuesday. “4 to 5 hours,” said one driver who added another man in his fleet took more than 6 hours to make it across Wednesday. Companies say drivers are missing deadlines or just skipping the day altogether to avoid the delays. “They lose millions,” said driver Benjamin Alfaro on the already cumbersome process taking even longer, “so if they don’t do that in the normal time of course they lose money. It’s a lot of pressure on everybody.” The President is expected visit the Southwestern border on Friday. 788

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Right on the sanctuary walls of Christ Temple Apostolic Church in El Cajon, you will find a banner honoring our military and service. And service is a big part of the job for Bishop Donnie McGriff. “It’s not a job it’s not a profession. It’s a ministry. And that’s what I do. I love it,” says Bishop McGriff. And serve the Bishop has for nearly 60 years, starting right out of high school in the Navy. He served his community as a UPS driver. And for over 30 years, he has served in what he calls his ultimate role as the leader of his church. What was his calling?“I think I found out at an early age that my purpose or destiny was to serve,” says Bishop McGriff with a smile. The Bishop serves in so many ways with his congregation. They collect food for the less fortunate. He even founded a Christian based University focusing on Theology and Entrepreneurship. But the military has always been very close to Bishop McGriff’s heart. He saw a need for support from the community when he was in the Navy and made that a focus for his congregation when he joined the church. “The highest rate for divorce is in our military, and that’s sad because they really don’t have the people to share with them,” adds McGriff. “Our theme for the entire church is preparing families to change the world.”If you would like to learn more about the work Bishop McGriff and the work his congregation at Christ Temple Apostolic Church does for our military click on this link.Or, feel free to nominate someone for the 10News Leadership Award. 1561
