SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Border officials say they seized more than .1 million in narcotics in two days at ports of entry in San Diego and Imperial Valley counties.Monday, a 45-year-old Mexican citizen driving a commercial bus was stopped at the San Ysidro port of entry and underwent a secondary screening. A K9 officer detected narcotics in the vehicle's gas tank.Officers found 229 pounds of cocaine, 23 pounds of fentanyl, and more than six pounds of heroin in the gas tank. In a second incident, on Tuesday, agents stopped a 23-year-old U.S. citizen at the Calexico East port of entry and referred them to a secondary screening. The port's imaging system screened the vehicle and noticed an anomoly in the back seat. A K9 officer also made a positive detection.Officers discovered 73 wrapped packages of methamphetamine hidden in the back seat, firewall, glove box, and inside vehicle panels.Later that same day, at the Calexico West port of entry, a 35-year-old Mexican citizen was found to be smuggling narcotics in the same manner.Imaging and a K9 officer detected narcotics, leading officers to find 50 wrapped packaged of methamphetamine inside vehicle panels.CBP officials seized all of the narcotics, valued together at more than .1 million.“Seizing these 400 plus pounds of narcotics is not only about keeping drugs out of our communities,” said Pete Flores, Director of Field Operations for CBP in San Diego. “It’s also about keeping millions of dollars in profits away from transnational criminal organizations, and preventing the ensuing crime and chaos they cause on both sides of the border." 1617

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - California’s Republicans are hoping to grow the party’s numbers in the state despite current odds.Roughly a quarter of California’s voters are registered Republican and in San Diego the GOP is seeing people jump ship. The San Diego GOP has lost thousands of voters in the last year with San Diego County Voter Registrar reporting 491,783 Republicans in May of 2018— compared to a little more 500,000 in May 2017.“A lot of that is the bullying or the stereotyping that goes on with being a conservative,” said Justin Clark, a 19-year-old conservative running for state assembly in Los Angeles, “you have a lot of people not wanting to identify as conservative, but a large portion of those 'undeclared to say' voters are.”The number of undeclared voters in San Diego is 476,186 in 2018 compared to approximately 461,000 just a year ago.“Whether your for or against the two-party system is irrelevant,” said Clark, “but its how those people feel. It’s why those decline to state numbers keep going up because they want to stay with them, they want to identify as them.”Among the California GOP’ers convening in San Diego the first weekend in May are other young faces.Morgan Murtaugh is a 25-year-old former news anchor running for Congress in California’s 53rd District, which is currently held by incumbent Democrat Susan Davis.Murtaugh says she’s gotten death threats over her conservative political leanings.“I mean my grandparents immigrated here from Mexico,” said Murtaugh, “I’m Mexican and I’m a woman. People look at me and they’re like ‘how are you identifying as a Republican they hate you?’ They don’t.”Murtaugh says she and other young Republicans are trying to break the stigma they say is a fabrication of the other side.“I want to change that assumption, said Murtaugh, “I want people to see that we can be for equal love, and we can be pro-environment. I really just hope we can get past these labels at some point.”There are 1.6 million registered voters in San Diego with more than 611,000 Democrats. 2043

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — As fans of San Diego's craft beer settle into the family life, their love for the industry certainly continues. So naturally, breweries have looked to help those beer-loving parents with setups that are family- and kid-friendly.And many of San Diego's breweries won't prompt the grandparents to judge why there's a baby in a bar, combining outdoor games and play areas with general family-friendly restaurant atmospheres.RELATED: Pet-friendly restaurants, bars in San Diego     Here are some local stops where you and your kids can enjoy a day out:(It goes without saying, drink responsibly. Some breweries offer designated driver discounts. Please check with the brewery to see if they offer any deals. Ride-sharing services are easy to hail at many local breweries as well!)Stone Brewing - Liberty Station2816 Historic Decatur Rd, San DiegoLiberty Station's Stone Brewing spot is great for families who want a day out, but maybe not the entire day at a brewery. Stone's outdoor area is packed with seating and a pond, all right next to Liberty Station's shops, park, art, and food hall. Ballast Point - Miramar9045 Carroll Way, San DiegoBallast Point's flagship location packs a family-friendly restaurant into a brewery, giving options for the entire family on its menu. It also has an area just outside for games and a firepit. Pizza PortMultiple locationsPizza Port locations have all been a favorite among local parents. They combine the appeal of a family-friendly pizza joint, with the craft beer love of a brewery. Kids can chow down on pizza and play arcade games not far from the beach. Second Chance Beer Co.15378 Avenue of Science #222, San DiegoSecond Chance has a set up like your traditional San Diego brewery (inside a business park) but don't let that fool you. The brewery itself has a big area filled with games like corn hole, Jenga, and darts, as comfy couches for board games. Belching Beaver Brewery302 E Broadway, VistaBelching Beaver's setup in Vista is perfect for families (and dogs). Its restaurant and bar lead out to a massive outdoor area complete with picnic seating, fire pits, and games. AleSmith Brewery9990 AleSmith Ct, San DiegoAleSmith's expansion dining area helps out parents with its own children's play area with chalkboards, books, and crayons. The brewery also has its own Tony Gwynn museum, featuring Gwynn's gear, awards, and history. Station Tavern2204 Fern St, San DiegoStation Tavern isn't a brewery in the traditional sense, but offers up many of the craft brews around San Diego that have put our town on the map. Better yet for parents, it has its own kids area complete with toys, chalkboards, and picnic tables. 2788

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Civil right activists and lawyers are hoping the court system can force San Diego County law enforcement agencies to change the way they deal with protests. On Thursday, a group of lawyers announced a half-dozen claims and lawsuits against the La Mesa Police Department, San Diego Police Department and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for what they call unnecessary use of force during recent protests.Dante Pride represents four of the claimants, including Leslie Furcron, the woman hit in the head by a bean bag round fired during a protest outside La Mesa police headquarters on May 30.Pride said Furcron suffered multiple fractures in her face, has no vision in her left eye, has problems walking, has problems remembering, and difficulty with balance.RELATED: Woman shot with bean bag round in the face during La Mesa protest makes public statement"All because she decided to come out, as she is entitled to do, and protest," said Pride.Pride’s other clients have injuries ranging from broken fingers to severe cuts and contusions from being hit by what officers call "less lethal" rounds."The manner in which these things were used, shot indiscriminately into crowds, these are lethal methods being used," said Pride.Other claims stem from protests across the city in the days that followed.Gerald Singleton said his two clients are the "epitome" of peaceful protesters, who were simply standing in the crowd when they were hit by what he calls "rubber bullets.""Anybody who embraces this movement is, unfortunately, under the current police culture, viewed as an enemy, and they're treated accordingly,” Singleton said.RELATED: La Mesa woman hospitalized following protests, family saysThe claims ask for monetary damages to cover medical expenses. They also call for sweeping changes to police tactics and the end of any use of force that could "escalate" an encounter."The recent conduct of local law enforcement agencies has sparked the need for systemic change," said San Diego ACLU President David Loy. "Instead of lashing out against demonstrators, law enforcement should be listening to them and hearing their concerns."The San Diego Police Department says due to the litigation they do not have a comment. A spokesperson for the La Mesa Police Department tells 10News, "The La Mesa Police Department cannot provide comment relating to any pending litigation. We encourage any member of the public that believes they suffered injury as a result of force used by any of our officers to contact us so that their incident can be investigated." 2590

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — At least two teachers are on leave pending investigations at Southwest Middle School in Otay Mesa West. A spokesperson for Sweetwater Union High School District confirms the investigations, saying the teachers are not allowed on campus at the current time.10News uncovered the investigations when a viewer reported that his daughter had been interviewed in the case. He says an assistant principal questioned her about one teacher's behavior, including conduct that could be considered sexually inappropriate. The father, who asked 10News not to use his name, says he's upset that he was not notified by the school before his daughter was brought in for questioning. "I would have preferred my wife to be there, or I could have had the chance to say no, I don't want her interviewed because these are very serious, morbid conversations to have with 12-year-old girls," the father said.He says the only communication he has had from the school is a robocall voicemail the day after the questioning to notify him that it had occurred and suggesting he ask his student about the topics discussed.A district spokesperson says they are limited in what information can be released by privacy and personnel issues. 1233
