SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Seven people were hospitalized Tuesday after two multi-vehicle crashes on Interstate 5 in the Torrey Pines area.The crashes were reported on southbound I-5 near State route 56 just before 1 p.m. Two car crashes — one four-car crash and one three-car crash — occurred in the area, forcing a complete shut down of I-5 for about an hour, according to California Highway Patrol officer Jim Bettencourt.At one point, the CHP's incident log listed as many as a dozen vehicles possibly involved in the crash. She was one of multiple people who came to the downtown building thinking the skyscraper was open for city business. Instead, it was shuttered Wednesday after the county found traces of asbestos on one the 17th floor. "I think the building should be removed, should be brought down, and just put up another building. It will probably be cheaper too," said Ignacio Alcaraz, a Spring Valley resident who had just left City Hall. The city inked the deal for the former Sempra Headquarters in 2017 with the plan of moving 1,100 employees into it to save on rent. City workers finally moved in about a month ago, but vacated last weekend after the county served the city with a violation for the asbestos."I think it's taken a horrible toll," said Councilwoman Barbara Bry, who took office after the deal was signed. "I was downtown over the weekend and noticed workers literally wheeling boxes and files and chairs out of 101 Ash."The city insists the building is safe, conducting 235 air quality tests in the last few months, and that it closed the building in an abundance of caution. Bry is now calling for an audit into how the city could do a deal like this. She said she cannot understand why the city would take possession of a property that old "as is.""That is stupid to do when you are doing a long-term lease purchase on a building that was built in the 1960s," Bry said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Pride is calling for video submissions that will be incorporated into their live-streamed event in July, in lieu of in-person gatherings. They are requesting people submit 15-30 second videos describing what Pride means to them. “We’ve learned as a movement and community that sharing personal stories is what pulls at hearts and minds and can help shape policy,” said Fernando Lopez, the Executive Director of SD Pride. But he also said he wants to make sure that even though the event will be virtual, it still creates a place for the LGBT community to express themselves. “What we’re doing is asking everyone to participate,” said Lopez. “One of the things that makes Pride special and unique is that we ask everyone from all walks of life to come together and celebrate diversity and to be together in community. We’re trying to do that but do it in a different way.” The videos will be incorporated into their live broadcast on July 18. As a year-round educational and advocacy organization, Lopez said SD Pride has already moved a lot of its events online. In doing so, he said they’ve actually been able to expand their reach. “When we’d have an educational forum, you’d get 40-80 people in a room,” he estimated. Now he says they are drawing thousands of people to their online forums.“We’re producing more programming than we have ever before and reaching more people than we ever have before,” said Lopez.
