An Akron, Ohio man will spend at least the next 20 years in prison for selling fentanyl to a woman who overdosed on the drug and died nearly three years ago.Jurmaine A. Jeffries, 29, was convicted of distribution of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute the drug.A jury found that the fentanyl Jeffries sold the woman resulted in her death.On Sept. 16, 2015, the day of her death, the woman texted and called Jeffries to ask about buying heroin. He responded to her messages and told her "B right there."Cell phone records placed Jeffries in the area near the woman's house on the day she died, authorities said.According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, after the woman died, police used her phone to text Jeffries about buying more drugs. Police arrested him when he showed up at the woman's house with fentanyl on his person.Sentencing will take place at a later date, but Jeffries is facing a mandatory minimum of two decades in prison for his charges.“We will prosecute those who sell fentanyl and other drugs that kill our friends and neighbors,” U.S. Attorney Justin E. Herdman said. “This defendant drove around Akron delivering poison for profit. The Akron Police Department and all our law enforcement partners did a tremendous job bringing this man to justice.” 1315

As businesses continue to gradually reopen, visiting some may come with more risk of coronavirus exposure than others.Dr. Daliah Wachs broke down the COVID-19 exposure risk of various establishments.Medium risk for COVID-19 exposure are places like hair and nail salons, according to Dr. Wachs.“You’re right there up in their face, waxing their eyebrows, you can’t do that 6 feet social distancing,” said Dr. Wachs.According to new COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people should wait in their car until their hair or nail appointment, and to pay by phone.Medium risk of exposure locations also includes sit-down restaurants, grocery stores and the doctor’s office, according to Dr. Wachs.Dr. Wachs says a doctor’s office can pose a danger due to a higher concentration of sick people being in one place.Inching closer to the highest risk locations are spots like bars, casinos and gyms.“You’re exhaling a lot, so gyms need that extra social distancing, much more than six feet,” said Dr. Daliah.The CDC advises those in gyms to wipe down equipment with disinfecting wipes, and to wear a mask if the workout is low intensity.When it comes to high risk of exposure, Dr. Wachs says parents should be mindful of day care facilities.Another high-risk spot is the Department of Motor Vehicles, according to Dr. Wachs.“You start to come up on the person ahead of you, you almost mentally try to move yourself closer. An Arizona mother has been arrested after police found audio recordings of her threatening to kill her abused infant. Mesa police report that on Wednesday morning, 18-year-old Leticia Stella Palos, was arrested in Casa Grande for child abuse.Investigators say on July 7, a 3-month-old boy was taken to Cardon’s Children Hospital for an injured right arm. Doctors discovered that his upper arm was broken. Doctors also allegedly found multiple bruises and fractures to three ribs in various states of healing. Police say the doctors determined that these injuries were "highly suspicious for non-accidental trauma."Detectives checked Palos' cell phone and reportedly found multiple recordings sent from her to the boy's father, where they heard the boy breathing "heavy and fast."In other recordings, they reportedly heard the child screaming. Palos was also heard in the recordings threatening to "throw the victim in the trash," and "that she is going to kill the victim."She also allegedly referenced drug use in the recordings.She is being held on a ,000 bond for child abuse.If you suspect a child is being abused, the Arizona Department of Child Services has resources available to report the issue to a social worker.
