SAN DIEGO — San Diego is playing a pivotal role as a testing ground for the future border wall while the region prepares for President Trump’s visit Tuesday.WHY SAN DIEGO?The region, specifically Otay Mesa, was selected as a location for the eight prototypes because of site accessibility to construct and the ability to evaluate the wall as part of a larger, existing border infrastructure system, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Ralph DeSio.San Diego County’s value as a construction site was detailed in a presentation made by the Department of Homeland Security and obtained by NPR.CBP officers can compare the performance of the prototypes to underperforming existing materials in the same location, according to the document. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 17-year-old boy who was allegedly behind the wheel during a solo-vehicle crash in Mission Valley that killed two teenage passengers and injured two others pleaded not guilty to multiple charges Thursday during an arraignment conducted at a Hillcrest hospital room.The unidentified teen was allegedly driving a 2008 BMW that veered off a freeway off-ramp and caught fire around 3:15 a.m. Saturday, killing two 15-year-old boys, according to the California Highway Patrol. Salt Lake City Police said Alan Covington, 50, walked into Lopez Tires the morning of Nov. 27 and said “I’m going to kill someone.” Witnesses also heard Covington say he wanted to “kill a Mexican person”, KTVX reported.Covington waved a square metal pipe at the men inside the business, who escaped onto the front sidewalk, police said. 19-year-old Luis Lopez was struck in the head, according to Lopez’ family.The right side of Lopez' face was shattered and a titanium plate was inserted, his sister reported.
