SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man is in custody after a chase ended in a standoff with police at a Mission Bay Motel Sunday morning. Police say the chase started just before 9 a.m. at the A-1 Storage on Garnett Avenue after officers received a citizens' tip. The suspect driving a U-Haul truck led police on a short chase to the 4300 block of Mission Bay Drive near Roadway in San Diego.According to police, the man is wanted on felony weapons charges. After the chase ended, a woman in the passenger seat was detained while the driver ran into the nearby motel. The woman was later released. While searching for the suspect throughout the motel, officers learned that the man broke through several walls to try and escape. “This guy starts forcing himself into apartments, and now we have to deal with a possible hostage situation. That’s the reason why we brought so many resources down here. We wanted to get this guy into custody as fast as we can," Lt. Christian Sharp with the San Diego Police Department said. Eventually, police had to use chemical gas and a K-9 to apprehend the suspect, who has yet to be identified.  1166

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A mom shopping with her one-year-son leapt into action when she found a car burglar inside her SUV in University City.On Wednesday morning at the Vons on Governor Drive, Gloria spent about 15 minutes shopping inside. Her son was sitting in the cart. As soon as she pushed the loaded cart out of the store, her eyes zeroed in on her SUV, parked close to the store."I was kind of in disbelief. Someone was in the car and the passenger door was wide open," said Gloria.Gloria saw a man rummaging through her center console and started screaming. She pushed every button on her key fob."The panic alarm actually went off. Scared the living daylights out of him, and he took off running," said Gloria. Moments after, she found her phone in her purse and starting recording. Surveillance video shows her take off in his direction. Holding tightly to her son, she continued to scream. Still pushing the cart, she followed him. "Definitely adrenaline and pure anger," said Gloria.Gloria has been a victim of three car burglaries in the past five years."I'm going to get you this time. You're not going to do this to anybody else," Gloria kept thinking. Less than a minute later, she followed him across the parking lot to a U-Haul truck before he drove off. She got a photo of him and the license plate. Possibly realizing Gloria got video, the guy ditched the truck, which was recovered hours later. She says police told her it was loaded with stuff: some of her belongings and other items, likely stolen. Police say the license plate led them to a local address, but the man wasn't there. Rob Thomas, a Marine veteran and avid surfer, had been kept in custody after Mexican authorities determined he was at fault for a traffic collision that sent four people to the hospital, according to friends and local news outlet Rosarito en la Noticia.Under Mexican law, drivers found at fault in a collision can be detained until they prove they can cover the estimated costs of the crash. Thomas did not have valid car insurance in Mexico, so authorities demanded a cash bond, said longtime friend Mikey “Beats” Beltran. The amount of the bond was negotiated by an attorney representing Thomas, but it could be ,000 to ,000, friends said. “This is without a doubt a traveler’s worst nightmare, ending up in a foreign jail surrounded by people that don’t speak your language,” he said. “They don’t feed the people in detention, and so friends of ours that are down there, they’ve had to feed him daily.”Thomas was in Rosarito on a surf trip. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Pacific Beach gym ordered to close for not adhering to the county's health orders and linked to one community outbreak has reopened.The Gym was forced to close on July 23 for violating public health orders after "the owners/operators of the Gym have acknowledged that they are aware of the Public Health Orders but will not voluntarily comply," according to a copy of the county order. A week after the county ordered the gym to close, a community outbreak was traced back to the fitness center, according to health officials.The county confirmed on Sunday that the gym has been allowed to reopen after altering their facility to be in compliance with health orders requiring that gyms move workouts outdoors. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego company has a solution for tired employees or students -- they've created "napping pods" which can be rented by the hour."It's a place to go, escape from a hectic environment and recharge," said Hohm CEO Nikolas Woods.The pods are small, just 43.5 square feet each. They include a fully-furnished twin-size bed, mirror, charging stations, fan, lights and light and noise dampening curtains."Every piece was put together to create the most comfort," said Woods.Right now, Woods has just three pods in service, all on the University of Arizona campus. He hopes to expand to more college campuses around the country.He's also trying to get large corporations to buy some for their employees, and he's trying to get some places in major airports as well."A lot of employees could use a break," Woods said. "Wouldn't it be better to go somewhere and recharge, get your productivity level up?"People can find and book the pods through the Hohm website.
