SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police, Chula Vista Police, and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reminded the public Friday about DUI enforcement scheduled for the Memorial Day weekend.16 people died and another 385 were injured in alcohol-related collisions during the holiday in 2016.Deputies said they would be conducting additional DUI patrols from Friday at 7 p.m. through early Tuesday morning.San Diego and Chula Vista Police said officers would also conduct extra patrols. Motorcycle and seat belt enforcement patrols were also planned for the weekend.Law enforcement agencies also warned drivers to be aware that driving under the influence of marijuana is also driving impaired."Don't put your life and those of others in danger by driving while impaired," said Sheriff Bill Gore. "If you are caught driving under the influence this Memorial Day weekend, you will go to jail." 900

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's LGBT community center, The Center, says it will not allow armed, uniformed officers at its facility or events.The announcement comes less than a week after San Diego Pride said it would not allow law enforcement to participate in the parade or events.The Center's Board of Directors voted that starting Tuesday, armed, uniformed law enforcement officers will not be allowed at the facility or future events unless its a last resort or true emergency, according to CEO Cara Dessert.RELATED: San Diego Pride: No law enforcement agency contingents in Parade, Festival"This is not about good or bad individual law enforcement officers, but rather a systemic problem in law enforcement that devalues Black lives and creates an environment in which our Black community does not feel welcomed, and in fact strikes fear and trauma," Dessert wrote, in part. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Saturday, San Diego County reported a record 1,478 new coronavirus cases and six additional deaths, bringing the county's totals to 70,709 cases and 966 fatalities.Saturday's new cases yielded a 7% positivity rate out of 21,947 tests reported. The new daily case report marks the third time in a week that the county has reported more than 1,000 new cases. It was also the 11th-straight day the county reported at least 600 new cases.Eleven new community outbreaks were also confirmed on Friday: Three in business settings, three in faith-based settings, two in childcare settings, one in a TK-12 school setting, one in a restaurant/bar setting, and one in a gym setting. A community outbreak is three or more COVID-19 cases in a setting and in people of different households over the last two weeks.County businesses saw purple tier restrictions go into effect on Saturday, further limiting reopening of the county due to the surge in coronavirus cases seen over the last couple of weeks.California's limited stay-at-home order is also set to begin Saturday night, limiting non-essential businesses between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for one month in counties under the state's purple tier.County public health officials are worried that fatigue is setting in on San Diegans and urged residents to avoid large gatherings this week for Thanksgiving,"The virus is widespread and every element of our community is impacted," said Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer.
