SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego veterans from WWII and the Korean War are getting ready for a special trip. This weekend they'll board an Honor Flight to Washington D.C.10News is getting exclusive access to the trip and was at Honor Flight San Diego's last planning meeting before the special weekend gets off the ground. David Smith, Founder of Honor Flight San Diego, says it's incredibly important to thank our veterans while there's still time. The oldest veteran on this weekend's flight will be 99-years-old. "I've actually had veterans come up to me and say, 'ya know, in all these years no one has ever said thank you to me - this means so much'," said Smith.The group relies on fundraising to make the honor flight a reality - it costs 0,000 for the entire weekend.Our coverage of the Honor Flight continues Friday morning when Reporter Amanda Brandeis boards the plane with the veterans and will continue through Sunday when they all return to San Diego. Honor Flight San Diego welcomes the community to join the Sunday's homecoming at the San Diego International Airport. Chargers fans meeting us all along the way.People lining the street to welcome us and a massive rally at the high school gym.And the Chargers fight song rang out, too. The refrain repeated the next day in New Orleans.Final destination: Miami. A lopsided loss; 49ers trounced our guys, 49 to 26, but it was an electrifying time for Chargers fans.Every year the Padres home opener is a day-long party. These Angels of the Jungle built a hospital and treated these fragile refugees.There are angels out in force every spring at the Embarcadero Marina Park North. The Celebration of Champions honors the doctors and nurses at Rady Children's Hospital and raises the spirits of hundreds of children and their families fighting to live healthy, happy lives. Sports figures and media types running with these champions and honoring those tearfully paying homage to the ones who've passed. It's an emotional day.4th of July is a blast! Thousands descend on Scripps Ranch each year. Snow Summit was a bit colder but a fabulous time as well.Finally we remember a little Lakeside girl: an Angel in Heaven, Hero on Earth, Forever in our Hearts. Kiera Larsen was ten years old when the family SUV began rolling down the driveway toward her playmates. She ran over and pushed two younger friends to safety but was crushed to death herself. Kiera was recognized with a Carnegie Hero medal and a personal letter from then President Barack Obama. We celebrate Kiera. 2918

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Starbucks customers are noticing a difference since employees were notified Friday of a revised customer policy, acknowledging "any person who enters our spaces, including patios, cafes and restrooms, regardless of whether they make a purchase, is considered a customer."This comes a month after two men were arrested in a?Philadelphia store, sparking national outrage."They're trying to make sure they fix the problem and everything and keep everything straight because they're not trying to be racist, I think," Customer Maurice Howard said.Every customer who spoke with 10News Sunday said they were happy to hear about the revised policy, hoping what happened in Philadelphia will never recur.Customer Francisco Ruiz said the coffee shops provide a service for the community, a notion echoed by the company's vision to create a "third place between work and home."It's no secret students see Starbucks as a study sanctuary. Others, like Yvonne Pardo, conduct business at some of the chains out of convenience."I'm a hiring manager for a local business and I do my interviews at Starbucks," Pardo said.When she learned of the arrest in Philadelphia, she still came in to conduct interviews, but didn't buy anything to see what would happen."Obviously I was impressed at the fact that I wasn't asked to leave, and I was there for four hours one time... Knowing that they changed their policy, I'll probably be more likely to be a patron again," she said.The new policy, meant to be more inclusive, could be abused."I was at Starbucks yesterday and there was a loiterer and I thought about that and I was like, now they probably can't ask this person to leave, and he was sleeping," Pardo said the person was homeless."You got a lot of people who want to kick it and chill and stuff like that so it'll probably be overcrowded, a little bit bad for business," Howard said.The new policy does address disruptive behavior instructing employees to call 9-1-1 and follow procedures to bar a customer from the chain if necessary.The complete revised Starbucks policy is online. 2168

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Unified School District officials confirmed to 10News Thursday that a teacher has been placed on leave while investigators look into accusations that he exposed a sixth-grade class to pornography.Officials said they were first notified Monday after a parent reported the alleged incident happened during a physical education class at Horace Mann Middle School, located at 4345 54th Street in San Diego."San Diego Unified is investigating the incident that allegedly occurred at Mann Middle School. The employee has been placed on leave pending the investigation,” district officials said.The district said it has spoken with at least 10 students regarding the report. There were at least 24 students in the class.District officials and district police are investigating."It's reprehensible," Craig Tinson, whose 12-year-old grandson attends the school, said. "Becuase the students are very impressionable. They're looking for adults to be the leader and unfortunately, it was compromised on this occasion."A parent of one of the students told 10News that her son was in the class when the teacher allegedly showed the students an adult video of a man and woman engaged in sexual activities.
