According to Dr. Todd Shatkin of Aesthetic Associates Centre in Amherst, New York, it's a slightly abrasive powder usually formed by coconut and is used in many different aspects of the health industry. Activated charcoal is an absorptive property, and it's designed to absorb and lift blemishes from teeth.It's used for cleansing, weight loss treatments, and skin care products. Now it's being used for teeth whitening to remove stains. How does it work?A toothbrush is dipped into the powder and is brushed directly onto teeth. The activated charcoal powder removes the extrinsic stains; stains that are caused by wine, coffee and other foods and drink. "Charcoal-based products would be good to remove the surface stain, but it won't internally bleach or whiten the teeth from within," Shatkin said. Is activated charcoal safe to use?Shatkin says yes.He says, to first make sure the product is FDA approved, and check the abrasiveness level. "The enamel is really pretty strong," he said. "If you're in the enamel your probably not going to do any harm to your teeth. But if the patient has worn through the enamel into the dentin, it causes sensitivity and causes discomfort. Access to city and county beaches will be limited for the Fourth of July weekend because of the statewide and local spike in COVID-19 cases.An order banning vehicular access to Nueces County bay and gulf beaches goes into effect Friday morning at 6 a.m. and ends at 6 a.m. July 7.The restrictions also include golf carts and all-terrain vehicles.What the order does not address is where the thousands of beach visitors expected this holiday weekend will be able to park.With beaches limited to pedestrians only, parking places will be at a premium because once they’re gone, you’re going to have to walk.Just a few weeks ago, local officials expected thousands of tourists flocking to Padre Island and packed beaches, similar to what we saw Memorial Day weekend.“You could have driven that beach and you weren’t going to find a space to get in on the beach,” said Director of Coastal Parks Scott Cross.Nueces County tried a similar plan over Easter weekend, with mixed results.“Easter weekend when we closed it down, it proved to us that the honor system is not going to work with these cables and barricades,” said Cross.This weekend, the county will keep vehicles out by blocking access roads with giant sand berms. After dozens of puppies were found in rural Pottawattamie County, Iowa with no food and water before being rescued Sunday, authorities ramped up their investigation into Young Gunz Kennel.They obtained a search warrant and confiscated items for several hours Tuesday.Sheriff deputies and animal control personnel hauled away a large number of kennels that were at the unlicensed facility, which was used for obedience and hunting training, as well as dog breeding. Investigators could also be seen snapping photos and collecting additional evidence that they could find at the site, which housed as many as 50 dogs before many of them were found inside their kennels severely malnourished. A total of four dogs have now been found dead, and 10 are missing.Copper was one of the dogs that was rescued on Sunday. When his owner Wil Beach picked him up, Copper had lost 20 pounds and was covered in feces. "He was very scared but still in high spirits, he was the same dog emotionally when I got him (back) than when I dropped him off,” says Beach.Beach says he took Copper and a 0 check to owner Dustin Young in January after high praises from friends. He says he did not suspect anything amiss when he made the drop-off. "When I was there it was neat and clean and organized and he was very talkative and he just seemed like he had a passion for dogs," says Beach.Beach is thankful that his two-year old pup is okay, with no major issues from the abandonment.  1500
