CLEVELAND - This story proves just about anyone can get scammed. A man from Oberlin, Ohio said even though he's an experienced buyer and seller of cars online, criminals got him."You never thought you'd be a victim of a scam like this,” we asked Derrick Macarthy. “Never,” Macarthy told us.He isn't some dumb guy who fell for a scam. “The eBay Motors page looked official,” he remembered.Macarthy was looking for a van, found one on Craigslist. It was 00 and to him that’s a lot of money. "I don't have 00 to just throw away," he told us.The seller sent him a note saying the husband supposedly died 5 months ago. "They told me they had just moved to another state and that they were dealing with eBay Motors," said Macarthy.He wasn't familiar with eBay Motors, but he went to Rite Aid anyway. He bought a half-dozen eBay gift cards and gave the crooks the numbers. Then, he even got a message from them saying "I'm sure you will love this car...take good care of it…I loved this car very much.""They're good, huh?” we asked.“They are. So, buyers beware," Macarthy replied.Beware because Macarthy got another message 30 minutes later saying they needed a thousand dollars more to ship the car to him. Macarthy knew, though, the ad said no shipping fee. So, the red flags went up and called eBay."When you hear, 'You've been scammed,' what goes through your mind?” we asked him.“I just hit the floor,” said Macarthy. He was devastated. He has a family that needs a van. Plus, he never suspected anything because he's bought and sold cars with honest people on Craigslist in the past. "I put the ad on there. (Buyers) responded. Money, title, and keys were exchanged and everybody was happy. (That’s) not how it happened this time."Macarthy said he went to local police but they don't have the resources to track down the scammers who stole his money. "I wish there was some way to get that back,” he told us.eBay Motors has a big warning that even highlights Craigslist for scams like this. The examples include scammers using eBay gift cards.The Better Business Bureau also has warnings and advice.Macarthy has his own suggestions for you. CRESSON, Texas -- One worker is unaccounted for and two others have been injured after an explosion at a chemical plant in Texas, according to ABC News.Investigators said Thursday that they believe the explosion was caused by a worker dragging his foot along the factory floor.A total of nine emergency-rescue and fire departments responded to the massive fire at Tri-Chem Industries plant, which is located about 50 miles southwest of Dallas.Crews were eventually evacuated from the vicinity due to the risk of another explosion and possible exposure to dangerous chemicals. 583

CVS says they are planning to expand their COVID-19 testing services.On Wednesday, the pharmacy chain announced that it would add rapid-result COVID testing at nearly 1,000 sites by the end of the year."Access to rapid-result tests enables us to help minimize community spread of COVID-19 by being able to more quickly identify active COVID-19 infection," said David Fairchild, MD, Chief Medical Officer, MinuteClinic in a press release. "In addition, we can test and treat symptomatic patients who test negative for COVID-19 for seasonal illnesses such as flu or strep and provide appropriate treatment and care."CVS said starting this week nearly 100 of the rapid-result test sites will be operational.If patients meet the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention criteria, the tests would be made available at no cost.Currently, CVS manages more than 4,000 drive-thru test sites in 33 states and Washington, D.C., with results coming back within 2-3 days.To schedule an appointment, you must register in advance at CVS.com. Tests are available for patients between 12-17 years old. COVID-19’s disproportionate impact on people living with diabetes is a growing concern.The American Diabetes Association says nearly 40% of COVID-19 deaths have been from those with the disease, while 90% of the hospitalizations have been people with diabetes or other underlying conditions.“Diabetes was a health crisis and epidemic in this country before the pandemic, and what the pandemic has done really is shine a very bright light on an old problem,” said Tracey Brown, CEO of the American Diabetes Association.Brown has lived with diabetes for 16 years. She's worried about additional financial struggles brought on by the pandemic.Even before COVID-19, one in four people were rationing their insulin to get by.Brown says the current unemployment rate is higher among people with diabetes. So, the burden has only worsened for those that have lost health coverage because of job loss.The disease also disproportionately impacts people of color living in low income areas.Brown says even now in 2020, every 5 minutes, someone in the U.S. loses a limb because of complications from diabetes.“There are so many comorbidities that go along with this, which is another reason why I talk about the fact that if we want to address the wellbeing of Americans, and improve the wellbeing of Americans, you can't have that conversation without having a conversation about improving diabetes,” said Brown.Brown wants to make sure people with diabetes don't feel like they're alone right now.There's a page of resources available on their website, Diabetes.org.
