KANSAS CITY, Mo. — There is no rule book when it comes to COVID-19, with endless questions still surrounding the potentially deadly virus. One big question that many are now asking: If you've already had the virus, should you get the vaccine when it becomes available? "Certainly right now, it's looking like they are going to recommend people that have had COVID to go ahead and get the vaccine when it's available to them, based either on their job or on their other health conditions," said Dr. Sarah Boyd, infectious diseases physician at Saint Luke's Health System.Boyd said it is important for everyone to get the vaccine, even those who already have had COVID-19."We know the majority of people that are at about 90 days, but there are some that probably longer," Boyd said. "Over the next few months, there will be information I am sure coming out about the natural course of immunity and if at some point you are at risk to get reinfection."Amanda Finley tested positive for the coronavirus twice and wants to get the vaccine as soon as she can."For me, I haven't had adverse reactions before, but the only way to know if it is going to affect long-haulers is if we try it," Finley said. "I just don't feel right saying, 'oh, somebody goes try it for me.' I will gladly do it. I will be first in line."She runs a Facebook group for COVID long-haulers.Some of the members in the group are excited about the vaccine, while others are nervous about it. But Finley said a big reason why she will get the virus is a simple one."Because I definitely do not want to get this again," Finley said. "It affects every system in the body. It's not just a respiratory disease, that is just how we found it. It affects your cardiovascular system, it affects your brain, it affects your muscles. LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) – A man who reportedly tried to hit his girlfriend with a pickaxe was taken into custody after a standoff at a La Jolla Shores home.At around 10:40 a.m. Thursday, San Diego police officers were called to a house in the 2500 block of Ellentown Road after receiving reports of a domestic violence incident.10News learned a man inside reportedly threatened his girlfriend with a pickaxe, prompting her to leave. The unidentified man remained inside and refused police orders to come out."When we first got here, he was not communicating with us, he was just inside the house, yelling and screaming and banging against the wall," said SDPD Captain Tina Williams.While officers tried to persuade him to surrender, sections of Ellentown Road were shut down due to the police activity.At times the man appeared in the windows of the home holding the ax and knives, according to Williams. He also started a debris fire on top of his stove, sending smoke billowing from the house. Shortly after 1 p.m., the man went to the backyard, where police took him into custody without incident, according to Williams.The man was booked on suspicion of attempted assault with a deadly weapon and felony domestic violence battery.The victim was not seriously injured.Williams said the incident was not the first time police had been called to the house. "Earlier this week, we did respond out here... he was out in the middle of the street causing an altercation," she said. Just before noon Saturday, a team of volunteer rescued climbers with Portland Mountain Rescue made contact with a 35-year-old injured climber who fell several hundred feet near Hogsback Ridge.Rescuers verified that the climber was in serious but stable condition. A helicopter with the Oregon Army National Guard was unable to reach the patient because of high winds.The helicopter returned to the mountain, still battling extremely dangerous winds, was able to drop of a National Guard Medic on the mountain to tend to the patient.The helicopter was forced to return to the Portland-area to refuel, but once again returned to once again try and evacuate the patient.The decision was made to transport the patient with a snowcat to a lower elevation.At approximately 7:45 p.m., the rescue crew that was with the patient was able to safely get the patient to Timberline Lodge parking lot where the Air Medic Evacuation Unit was waiting to transport the him to the hospital.The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office would like to extend a sincere thank you to our partners who assisted in the search and rescue effort: Portland Mountain Rescue, American Medical Response Reach and Treat, Hood River Crag Rats, Mountain Wave Search and Rescue, and the Oregon Army National Guard. 1280

Koeberle Bull got on Facebook and saw several racist, cruel messages that used the N-word and wished death on her three African-American children.She didn't know the white man who had messaged her -- she lives in New Jersey, and he appeared to live in Kentucky -- but he had a gun in his profile photo, so she decided to call police in Kentucky and report him."I was in shock, I was disgusted, I was angry and hurt," Bull said.Little did Bull know that her call, and a follow-up police investigation, prevented what police say could have been a mass tragedy.On Thursday, after speaking with Bull, Kentucky State Police went to interview Dylan Jarrell, the Lawrenceburg man who allegedly messaged her. Police say they found him backing out of the driveway with a firearm, a collection of ammo, a Kevlar vest and a detailed plan to attack local schools."This young man had it in his mind to go to schools and create havoc," state Police Commissioner Rick Sanders said.
