President Donald Trump applauded reports Thursday that Senator-elect Tommy Tuberville, R-Alabama, could team up with an Alabama congressman in an extremely unlikely, last-ditch effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election. In a series of tweets on Thursday, Trump called Tuberville a "hero" and "a man of courage."Despite producing little evidence to support his claims, Trump has claimed there was widespread voter fraud in the 2020 election and has falsely claimed victory over President-elect Joe Biden.Trump's efforts to overturn the results of the election have been shot down by courts in every battleground state, federal appeals courts and the Supreme Court. Furthermore, every state has certified the results of their elections, and the Electoral College has already sealed Biden's win. However, some Republicans believe they'll be able to overturn the results of the election on Jan. 6, when Congress meets to certify the Electoral College results. It's a process that is typically a little more than a rubber stamp approval, but Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Alabama, has promised to raise an objection. Should a senator — like Tuberville — join in Brooks' objection, both the House and the Senate would then be forced to take a vote. If both chambers approve of the objection, the Electoral College votes could be thrown out. While Tuberville's objection could cause a slight delay in approving the Electoral College results, most experts believe that it would be "impossible" to overturn the election results through this process. Democrats control the House of Representatives, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he does not want Republican senators further challenging election results.Tuberville will be sworn in as a Senator on Jan. 3 — just three days before Congress meets to approve the Electoral College vote. By defying McConnell in one of his first official acts as a Senator, Tuberville risks losing the support of one of the most powerful lawmakers in Washington. However, his recent comments indicate that he plans to object to the Electoral College vote."You'll see what's coming," Tuberville said this week. "You've been reading about in the House. We're going to have to do it in the Senate."Other GOP senators have not said whether they plan to voice an objection.Tuberville, a former college football coach at Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas Tech and Cincinnati, defeated Sen. Doug Jones, D-Alabama, in November.Democrats in the House filed similar objections in 2001, 2005, and 2017. None were voted upon. 2544

President Donald Trump has announced he's rolling back an influential environmental law from the Nixon-era that he says delays infrastructure projects. When he first announced the effort in January, the administration set a two-year deadline for completing full environmental impact reviews while less comprehensive assessments would have to be completed within one year. The White House said the final rule will promote the rebuilding of America.Critics call the president’s efforts a cynical attempt to limit the public’s ability to review, comment and influence proposed projects under the National Environmental Policy Act, one of the country’s bedrock environmental protection laws.Trump made the announcement at a UPS facility in Atlanta. The changes deal with regulations for how and when authorities must conduct environmental reviews. The goal is to make it easier to build highways, pipelines, chemical plants and other projects. While in Atlanta, Trump said that “we’re reclaiming America’s proud heritage as a nation of builders and a nation that can get things done.”Georgia is emerging as a key swing state in the general election. Trump won the Republican-leaning state by 5 percentage points in 2016, but some polls show him trailing former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic nominee. This will be Trump’s ninth trip to Georgia and his sixth visit to Atlanta during his presidency. The president’s trip also comes as the state has seen coronavirus cases surge and now has tallied more than 12,000 confirmed cases and more than 3,000 deaths. The White House said the administration’s efforts will expedite the expansion of Interstate 75 near Atlanta, an important freight route where traffic can often slow to a crawl. The state will create two interstate lanes designed solely for commercial trucks. The state announced last fall, before the White House unveiled its proposed rule, that it was moving up the deadline for substantially completing the project to 2028.Thousands of Americans on both sides of the new federal rule wrote to the Council on Environmental Quality to voice their opinions. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce cited a North Carolina bridge in its letter as an example of unreasonable delays, saying the bridge that connected Hatteras Island to Bodie Island took 25 years to complete, but only three years to build. “The failure to secure timely approval for projects and land management decisions is also hampering economic growth,” the business group wrote. The Natural Resources Defense Council said that when Congress passed the National Environmental Policy Act 50 years ago, it did so with the understanding that environmental well-being is compatible with economic well-being. The proposed rule, it said, would lead federal agencies to make decisions with significant environmental impacts without ever considering those impacts in advance.“At the end of the day, it would lead to poor decision, increased litigation and less transparency,” said Sharon Buccino, a senior director at the environmental group.Trump’s trip to Georgia comes one day after Biden announced an infrastructure plan that places a heavy emphasis on improving energy efficiency in buildings and housing as well as promoting conservation efforts in the agriculture industry. In the plan, Biden pledges to spend trillion over four years to promote his energy proposals.Trump’s push to use regulatory changes to boost infrastructure development also comes as the House and Senate pursue starkly different efforts. The Democratic-controlled House passed a .5 trillion plan that goes beyond roads and bridges and would fund improvements to schools, housing, water and sewer, and broadband. A GOP-controlled Senate panel passed a bill last year setting aside 7 billion for roads and bridges, but other committees are still working on the measure, including how to pay for it.___Associated Press writer Aamer Madhani contributed to this report. 3978

President Donald Trump remains in the hospital as he's being treated for COVID-19.His doctors today saying he’s in good spirits and has been fever free today, they also say he’s been treated with two different drugs. What are they and how do they work together? We went to a medical expert to try to get some clarity.“About 48 hours ago the president received a special antibody therapy directed against the coronavirus, working closely with the companies and monitoring him,” said Navy Commander Dr. Sean Conley. “Yesterday he received Remdesivir, and the plan is to continue a five-day treatment course for Remdesivir.”What is Remdesivir?Dr. Mangala Narasimhan, who’s been at Northwell Health for 13 years and has treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients explains.“Remdesivir is an anti-viral agent and it attacks the virus with hopes of making it less lethal and deadly," she said. "If you give Remdesivir early in the course before patients are really sick, you can prevent them from progressing on to a higher level of illness.”Doctors have recently been using the anti-viral drug on COVID-19 patients, but not the antibody cocktail produced by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals the president is also taking, because it hasn’t been FDA-approved.“Basically what your body does when it sees a virus it produces an antibody, so this is taking an antibody that was produced and cloning it so that produced in higher levels and giving it directly to you,” said Dr. Narasimhan. "The anti-viral cocktail is new, started developing in June, is not FDA-approved but they got it through a compassionate use for the president. We're not sure what side effects are.”The hope is that both treatments together will slow down the progression of the president’s coronavirus but it’s still unclear how his age, weight and the new drug waiting for FDA-approval will play into his recovery.“The two together are unknown for sure,” Dr. Narasimhan said. “The plus is you’ll stop the progression of COVID-19.”The president’s doctors say they are monitoring him closely not just for any COVID-19 complications but also for any effects the treatments may have on him. This story was first reported by Jennifer Bisram at PIX11 in New York, New York. 2224

POMONA (CNS) - A 38-year-old man was charged today with the murder of a 9-year-old girl whose body was found partially inside a large duffel bag near an equestrian trail in the Hacienda Heights area.Emiel Lamar Hunt -- who is believed to be the boyfriend of Trinity Love Jones' mother -- was arrested early Saturday in connection with the girl's death. Sheriff's officials said Hunt was found sleeping in his vehicle in a lot near San Diego International Airport. The arrest was assisted by the Port of San Diego Harbor Police. Hunt appeared briefly in a Pomona courtroom Tuesday, but his arraignment was delayed until April 16. He remains jailed in lieu of million bail. The criminal complaint alleges that Hunt has a 2005 conviction for child abuse from San Diego County. He could face up to 50 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.Sheriff's officials said earlier that two "persons of interest'' had been detained for questioning in the case, but only Hunt was charged Tuesday.Sheriff's officials said they were not disclosing any additional information about the second person of interest, pending further investigation. The victim's relatives told reporters the girl's mother was the second person beingquestioned, but sheriff's officials would not confirm those reports, and there is no record of her being arrested.County workers clearing some brush in the area found the girl's body found about 10 a.m. March 5. The girl was partially inside a black roll-away- type duffel bag, with her head and upper body protruding from the partially zipped bag left at the bottom of an embankment close to Colima Road and the 3400 block of Hacienda Boulevard, near the His Lai Buddhist Temple, authorities said. The coroner's office ruled her death a homicide, but officials have not said how the girl died.Sheriff's detectives initially asked for the public's help in identifying the girl, releasing a composite sketch of the child and photos of the clothing she was wearing. Family members who created a memorial of candles, flowers, balloons, stuffed animals and photos near where the girl's body was found eventually confirmed her identity."Words can't explain what I'm feeling right now,'' Anthony Jones, Trinity's father, said at the memorial site. ``I just want answers. I just want justice. She was just the best -- full of character, full of life, full of joy.''Jones said he learned of his youngest daughter's death through a telephone call. 2536

President Donald Trump "believes he has the power to" fire special counsel Robert Mueller, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Tuesday."He certainly believes he has the power to do so," Sanders said when asked whether Trump believes he has that power. She did not suggest Trump would be moving to fire Mueller.Under the special counsel regulations, Mueller may be "disciplined or removed from office only by the personal action of the attorney general." Attorney General Jeff Sessions has recused himself from all matters related to the 2016 presidential campaign, so only Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has the power to fire Mueller.Trump does have the ability to fire Rosenstein, for no reason at all, as a member of the executive branch. 766
