NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) -- A mother of three shown in a video being detained by Customs and Border Protection agents was released Tuesday on her own recognizance.Shortly after 9 p.m. Perla Morales-Luna and her daughters shared a tearful reunion. A judge said that Morales-Luna, 36, isn’t a danger to society or a flight risk. During the family's reunion, she did say "Thank you" to the press but had no further comment. The video showing Luna’s detention made rounds on social media earlier in March. NASSAU COUNTY, Long Island — A man allegedly faked his own death in order to avoid being sentenced in two open cases, according to the Nassau County District Attorney's office.Officials said Robert Berger, 25, used his attorney to provide a county prosecutor with a fake death certificate. The document had typos, which tipped off officials, according to the statement from the DA's office.“Typos and formatting errors gave up what we allege is a forged death certificated that this defendant used to avoid accountability for other crimes,” District Attorney Madeline Singas said in the statement released this week. “Submitting fake documents to prosecutors is always a bad idea, and while he’d have been caught regardless, failure to use spell check made this alleged fraud especially glaring.”In 2018, officials said Berger pleaded guilty to charges related to his possession of a stolen Lexus; he also pleaded guilty to attempted grand larceny for attempting to steal a pickup truck.On Oct. 22, 2019, attorneys for Berger told the court their client had died and provided the court with a New Jersey Death Certificate, stating the defendant died by suicide.The attorney said Berger's fiancé provided them with the document.Upon inspection of the certificate, officials said the font size and type were not consistent in the document, and the word “Registry” in the department name was misspelled as “Regsitry."After calling to verify the certificate with officials in New Jersey, investigators confirmed the certificate was fraudulent.A copy of the false death certificate was also provided to officials in Suffolk County, where Berger also had a pending criminal case, officials said.After the discovery, Berger was arrested on Nov. 14, 2019, in Pennsylvania and was held for charges including providing a false identity to law enforcement.Berger was arraigned Tuesday and is due back in court on July 29. Although his numbers were randomly chosen, Diaz said he had a good feeling when he saw two of his numbers were 3 and 16, relating it to the Bible verse "John 3:16."His numbers 3, 9, 23, 27, 35 and Mega number 16 ended up being the perfect pick, netting him the million jackpot.The 7-Eleven will also receive 0,000 for selling the winning ticket, the state lottery says.Although Diaz told the lottery he doesn't have plans for the money yet, he and his wife want to buy a house, donate to their church and charities, and start college funds for their children. (KGTV) — Police have arrested two suspects in the death of a teenager found in a National City alley in November.National City Police said Friday that 18-year-old Jonathan Cardona Martinez, of San Diego, and 18-year-old Alan Monroy, of Chula Vista, were arrested for the murder of 17-year-old Ivan Rojas on Nov. 27.Rojas was found just before 1:30 a.m. in the west alley of 1900 C Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. First responders arrived and performed life-saving measures, but Rojas died at the scene.Both Martinez and Monroy have been arraigned on first-degree murder charges and are being held on million bail.Anyone with information on the case is asked to call National City Police at 619-336-4460. 751
