LOS ANGELES (AP) — Arnold Spielberg, father of director Steven Spielberg and a pioneering computer engineer, has died. A family statement says Spielberg died Tuesday in Los Angeles at 103. He co-designed the GE-225 mainframe computer while working for General Electric in the 1950s. The machine allowed researchers at Dartmouth College to come up with the coding language BASIC, which made personal computers possible. Shortly after submitting her idea, she received a note from Oreo and its parent company, Mondelez International, Inc., that read, "Dear Taylor Young, Thanks for sending us your idea. We thought it was so delicious, we turned it into this one-of-a-kind creation just for you. Straight from the wonder vault. Enjoy!"They also sent her a small packet with two cherry cola flavored Oreo cookies inside."It is pretty good,” Young said. “I tried it.”Young was on cloud nine.The contest states all finalists are awarded ,000. And it states the person who submits the winning flavor will win 0,000.“I, from what I can tell, was the first person to tweet that idea," Young said.But then, for Young, the contest turned sour. Oreo stopped communicating with her. LONG BEACH (CNS) - A woman was killed early Monday afternoon by a man who used a scooter to assault her on a street in Long Beach.Officers responded about 12:30 p.m. to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 6400 block of North Obispo Avenue, according to Long Beach Police Department Public Information Officer Shaunna Dandoy.``The victim is believed to be a female adult who was walking eastbound towards Obispo and 64th (Street)'' when a man ran up and began assaulting her, Dandoy said.A bystander tried to help, at which time the suspect grabbed a scooter and used it to continue attacking the woman, according to Dandoy.The suspect was last seen running west from the location on foot. Fire department personnel responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene, Dandoy said. Her name and age were not immediately available.Homicide detectives were investigating the fatal assault. 910
