SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police in a standoff with a woman for nearly an hour before they say she tried to run over officers.It started with someone reporting a woman parked at a gas station and blaring music on Balboa Avenue in Clairemont.When officers arrived they asked her to turn down the music but she refused and at one point held up a piece of paper to her window that said no.After about 45 minutes, officers placed spike strips under her tires. That's when police say she tried to ram her way out, striking several police cars and running over the spike strips.She lost control, drove across lanes and jumped the median and spun out on Mt. Alifan Drive.Officers surrounded her car, smashed out the side window and dragged her out. During the scuffle to take her into custody, at least one officer suffered some minor cuts and bruises.Police say the woman will likely face assault with a deadly weapon charges. 922

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- No citations were issued at City of San Diego beaches for violation of county and state health orders over Memorial Day weekend as San Diagans headed to the beach during the holiday, according to San Diego Police. Police say they contacted thousand of people on the sand to educate them about proper use of the beaches, but no citations were issued for violation of the county and state order. "We encounter very good crowds and received little to no opposition and gained compliance," a spokesperson for the department said. Although no citations were issued for violating state and county orders at city beaches, other citations were handed out for alcohol in public, public urination, and dogs on the beach. 738

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People looking for some extra cash on hand during the coronavirus pandemic are turning to pawn shops as one way to make ends meet.Moris Adato, the owner of CashCo Pawn, says business for pawn loans started to pick up near the end of April when people needed extra money for mortgage and rent payments."It's getting crazy right now," Adato says.Pawn shop owners say their loans can help people make ends meet as they wait for things like EDD payments or stimulus checks or search for a new job.When someone pawns an item, the shop owner gives them a loan against the item's cash value. People typically have 4-6 months to pay it back, with interest. Once the loan is repaid, the item is returned to the owner.If someone can't, or chooses not to repay the loan, the item then belongs to the store and can be sold. There's no penalty for forfeiting the item, and it will not affect your credit score.Many stores, like Adato's, will allow people to extend their loans if they ask.Adato says his most common item is jewelry."Jewelry in itself is something to wear and to look good, but it's a commodity," he says. "It's gold, silver, or diamonds. If things go wrong, this is how you get out of trouble."Experts say there are a few things people need to know before deciding to pawn a possession.First, make sure the store you go to is accredited with a state or national pawnbrokers association. That will ensure they follow all the laws and regulations of the business.Second, ask about the terms of the loan, especially the interest. California law caps the interest on a pawn loan at 3% per month.Third, make sure you understand all of the extra costs, including storage and set up fees.Despite the spike in demand, Adato says about 90% of the people who come in for loans pay them back and reclaim their items. Just before 2 a.m., a motion-activated light flashes, but these vandals are undeterred. With another man and a person on a bike nearby, someone in a cap and hoodie casually begins spray painting the back wall of a home. For more than 40 seconds, he tags the wall, before he and his cohorts leave.It appears they weren't done. 10News found similar tags on fences, and garage door after garage door. A block away at Euclid Elementary, there was more graffiti. Montano's place was spared, but her home has been hit several times before. She says tagging - including the school - is a weekly occurrence."Tagging leads to other activities that aren't safe. My concern as a parent and resident is the children's safety and them walking to school, feeling safe. It allows other people to treat our neighborhood like crap. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People looking to buy a new or used car may have to hurry if they want to take advantage of the Coronavirus Pandemic's best deals and discounts.Recent studies from the California New Car Dealers Association show that sales of new cars in San Diego were down by 18.6% in the first quarter of 2020 compared to the same time of 2019. That's better than the state average of 21% but still worrisome for the industry.President Paul Dyke says his dealership saw sales drop in the 10-15% range at El Cajon Ford. But he says the company did a great job of offering deals to bring people into the lots, such as low-interest financing, long term payment plans, and lower prices."Zero percent is always something that gets people moving," says Dyke. "Now for the first time in Ford's history, doing it at 84 months on quite a few of the models really kept things going."The CNDCA says the Pandemic forced the industry to readjust its outlook for the year. They now predict new car sales to reach about 1.5 million in 2020, down from 2.1 million in 2019. If sales stay slow, it could be the worst year for new car sales since the Great Recession.Meanwhile, used cars are flooding the market as rental companies upgrade their fleet.Hertz recently filed for bankruptcy. The company iSeeCars.com did a study on their prices and found that Hertz was offering sales discounts in May that were 43% greater than the discounts they offered in April."There are still plenty of deals to be had," says Amada Lasik from iSeeCars.com. "That's especially true for cars that have been lingering on lots for a while, so we invite consumers to do as much research as they can."Manheim, a company that does used car auctions across the country, says used cars have been staying on lots for longer than usual.
