Millions of small, black cerith snails cover one area of Fort De Soto Beach, Florida, stunning wildlife lovers. The shellfish, known as cerith snails, cover nearly the entire length of the beach. Robert Neff snapped several pictures of the bizarre event. “I grew up in Florida and I’ve never seen anything like this. It was amazing to see,” he said. What makes this so odd is Cerith snails don’t typically wash up onto land. They’re usually along the bottom of the ocean in flat reefs or hiding in coral reefs where the temperature is warm. The snails are in an area off the south end of the parking lot at Fort DeSoto’s North beach, which borders the bird sanctuary. Neff said the low tide exposed the snails over the weekend, and many are still at the beach. His photographs, along with video taken by Mark Freels of See Through Adventures, have been widely shared across social media. One former research assistant from the Georgia Sea Turtle Center said it's possible the snails came to the shallow waters because they found food, which was washed up by recent hurricanes, on the beach. Freels said it was a very strange and magnificent sight.“My job is to take people on kayak adventures and you never know what you’ll find. This was very interesting to see,” he said. 1330

Monday marks the final opportunity for President Donald Trump and Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden to deliver their pitches before Election Day — and both candidates are taking full advantage. Both Trump and Biden have packed schedules on Monday and will host several campaign events — most of them concentrated in Midwestern swing states that could prove vital in their electoral maps.Trump will hold a whopping five campaign rallies on Monday — a final 12-hour sprint that will cover four states that he likely needs to carry in order to serve a second term.Trump began the day at 11:45 a.m. ET in Fayetteville, North Carolina — a state he narrowly lost to Hillary Clinton in 2016 and is still in play in 2020. The state is also in the midst of a key Senate race that could determine which party controls the body in the next session.During his speech in North Carolina, Trump decried poll numbers that show him losing in key swing states, calling them "fake." He also attempted to paint Joe Biden and other prominent Democrats as "criminals," citing reports about Biden's son that are based on questionable information.Trump's Monday blitz will also take him to Pennsylvania — the state many analysts say could be the "tipping point" state of the election. Record numbers of Pennsylvanians have already voted in 2020, but state regulations state that many of those ballots cannot be counted until Tuesday — meaning the state likely won't be called until later in the week. Finally, Trump will finish the day in two upper Midwest states that he unexpectedly took in 2016 — and where he will need a similar overperformance if he hopes to win them again in 2020: Wisconsin and Michigan.Trump's rally in Wisconsin will take place in Kenosha — the city that was the sight of unrest early this year following the police shooting of Jacob Blake.Biden will spend the majority of his final day of campaigning in Pennsylvania — underscoring the importance the state will have in the outcome of the election. The former Vice President will hold three events in the state on Monday, including a prime-time event in Pittsburgh alongside pop star Lady Gaga.At an event in Monaca, Pennsylvania — a town just northeast of Pittsburgh — Biden stressed the importance of labor unions in building the middle class, and painted Trump as an aristocrat."He only sees things from (the perspective) of Park Avenue," Biden said.On Sunday, the Trump campaign hit Biden for his planned appearance with Lady Gaga, calling the singer an "anti-fracking activist." Lady Gaga responded to the Trump campaign's release by tweeting at Trump, saying she was living "rent free" in his head. 2671

MILWAUKEE — A Milwaukee woman who contracted the COVID-19 virus thought it came back last month, but instead, received a potentially life-saving diagnosis.Melissa Armour tested positive back in March for the coronavirus. Her symptoms were severe, and she was hospitalized."You have double pneumonia, you have the dry cough, you have a fever of 104 [degrees]," said Armour. She battled it for weeks, and seemed to recover. That was until her symptoms returned in August."I would be coughing out my lungs," Armour said. "I couldn't even talk."At first glance, it appeared the virus had returned stronger than before."They did X-rays, CT scans," she said. "They found that my left lung partially collapsed and I had pneumonia again."But when her tests came back, she received an unexpected diagnosis."I was like, check it again," Armour said.It wasn't COVID-19, it was cancer."I just couldn't believe it," she said. "And the doctors and the nurses were like 'well you might not like to hear this but the coronavirus actually saved your life because we caught leukemia on time.'"Armour was cared for by Dr. Zartash Gul, a hematologist oncologist at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center, and Dr. Federico Sanchez, the medical director for Aurora Cancer Care. They said because they caught her leukemia early enough, they were able to start Armour on a mild treatment. If they had caught it until later, they might have had to administer a more aggressive plan."I think it benefited her in the sense that, because of her concern for COVID, she showed up and she was diagnosed maybe slightly earlier than she could have," Gul said."Everything looks like COVID and COVID looks like everything else," Sanchez said. "So, it's very difficult to determine what you have in this time with a pandemic. Everybody has COVID until proven otherwise."Armour is one of the lucky ones during this pandemic.A study done by the Journal of American Medical Association looked at new diagnoses of six common cancers during the pandemic, and found diagnoses are down 46 percent. Leukemia was not one of the cancers included in the six.The Journal of Clinical Oncology looked at two common cancer screenings and found those are significantly down as well. Mammograms are down 89 percent, and colorectal screenings down 84 percent. At Aurora St. Luke's, Sanchez estimates their screenings are down by about 40 percent, adding that could have serious impacts down the road."Our concern has been that we've been bracing ourselves and we started to see the effects," Sanchez said. "That we're going to be seeing a lot more advanced cancers in the next coming year, just because we miss the opportunity to find them early."Gul points out that Armour likely would have come in for treatment at some point for her leukemia."Leukemia is a fast-growing disease that [doesn't] have a screening program for the patients (who) are sick when they come," Gul said. But more and more people are putting off routine cancer screenings, potentially for fear of contracting the virus at the doctor's office or hospital."I would hate for people to miss an operable lung cancer or operable breast cancer or colon cancer that could be cured, I'm literally saying cured," Sanchez said. They want people to treat their health as essential."I would say that coming to the hospital is probably safer than going into a restaurant at this time," Sanchez said.Despite the potentially life-saving diagnosis, Armour wants people to take the virus seriously and wear a mask. This story originally reported by Marty Hobe on TMJ4.com. 3572

MILWAUKEE -- A Milwaukee family is devastated by the sudden loss of a young man. 21-year-old Nasir Matthews collapsed and died Tuesday while playing pick-up basketball. Terrell Matthews was there as his cousin and best friend fell to the ground after a game."The second game ended, he went over to the fan, leaned over for a second and he just went out," Matthews said. "Everything started happening so fast."Matthews said at first, everyone thought he was joking around. "After about 30 seconds they all started to see his eyes were just a blank stare," Matthews said.Matthews called 911 as others tried to revive him with a defibrillator at the school. Despite their efforts, Matthews was pronounced dead a short time later."At this point, we don't know why he fell out," said Matthews' aunt Camille Rose. "He didn't have any known medical condition other than an enlarged heart." Rose said this brings another round of grieving for Matthews' younger siblings who can't seem to catch a break. "The kids were all trying to deal with the loss of their mother, their grandmother and basically their father," Rose said.  Through the tears, Matthews looks back at the memories he shared with his cousin. "He was always happy, even through what he's been through," Matthews said.  The tragedy serves as a painful reminder to never take a loved one for granted, no matter their age. Matthews' family is still waiting on autopsy results to find out exactly why he died.  1522
