And that includes a local pilot, who helping those workers, that help him to get off the ground. Anthony Oshinuga became interested in becoming a pilot when he was 5-years old, and now he's a veteran of the air. Anthony's need for speed and adrenaline led him to racing and performing aerobatics. But he calls his latest piloting adventure, his most rewarding. Flying his own biplane, he traveled across in the country for a campaign he calls, "Reach for the sky...we've got the ground"."Essentially, what that means, is for the support crew that is on the ground at each airport we visited. We delivered a COVID-19 relief package that had face masks, hand sanitizer, and then we gave them a mug to say thank you. We appreciate what you are doing."It was quite a trip for the Valley Center resident, as his flight included 44 stops in 22 locations."My sponsor, Epic Fuel,s, put together this campaign that covered six thousand nautical miles, in my biplane, traveling about 160 miles per hour, " says Anthony. His trip was about giving thanks to airport employees."We have people at the airport, like the guys who fuel the trucks, and those workers who greet people coming off private jets. There are interactions and contact with these people all the time, and we don't think about that."And along his journey, he was able to visit with young kids, and maybe inspire them to become pilots one day. "There were a few stops along the way where people got word of me stopping in. A bunch of kids came out that were S.T.E.M motivated. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Distance learning is now possible for more than 7,000 San Diego County families who had little or no internet access before the pandemic. The County Office of Education has been working for months to get those students online and have plans to help even more.Before COVID-19 hit, the county estimates one in five families had no internet or were considered “under-connected” by not having a connection strong enough to support distance learning.Isabel Estrada was one of those students.“Sometimes it would cut out during class time and I would miss something or have to email my teachers of why it kept cutting out,” said the freshman at Oceanside High School.The County Office of Education has been working for months to bridge the digital gap. So far, they’ve provided more than 7,000 mobile hotspots to families in need.Once Isabel’s family got a hot spot she says she felt more confident signing on to class.“We’re just really grateful because the internet right now, it’s me and my sister so it helps both of us with school,” said Isabel.At a press conference Thursday, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher announced million from the general fund will be used to help connect another 4,000 families.“That digital divide went from something that we needed to address, to something we had to address when our promise of public education moved virtually,” said Fletcher.The million will be divided among 19 districts identified as having the greatest need. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — For the first time, the hunting license suspected Poway Synagogue shooter John Earnest presented to buy the rifle used in the alleged attack has been made public.The dates on the license show it was invalid at the time Earnest purchased the gun from a dealer in San Diego.Earnest, 19 years old at the time of purchase, needed a valid state-issued hunting license to get around a new California law that raised the age limit to buy a firearm to 21. He picked it up the day before the attack, which killed Congregant Lori Kaye and injured three others. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Health officials issued two new public health orders Monday addressing cruise ships arriving in San Diego during the coronavirus pandemic.The orders are meant to give the county more legal framework in how the Port of San Diego interacts with ships and the cruise industry, Dr. Eric McDonald, the county's medical director of epidemiology, said.RELATED: San Diego gyms ordered to close in new coronavirus health orderThe new orders include:"No passenger or employee may disembark a cruise ship in San Diego harbor without the approval of the health officer or designee if any person on the cruise ship has tested positive for COVID-19. Any cruise ship that is permitted to dock in San Diego harbor shall notify the health officer or designee regarding any emergency medical treatment required for passenger/employee and follow all directives from the health officer or designee.No cruise ship in San Diego harbor may dock or disembark employees or passengers after March 31, 2020. However, upon approval of the health officer, a cruise ship may dock solely for the purposes of receiving fuel and provisions, so long as no employee or passenger disembarks. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — FBI investigators are searching for a woman wanted in two grocery store bank robberies.The woman, described as a Caucasian blonde in her 20s standing about 5-feet 6-inches tall, is believed to be behind two heists in La Mesa and Rolando areas this month.On Sept. 12, investigators say the woman walked into a US Bank inside the Vons grocery store at 6155 El Cajon Blvd. just before 3 p.m. She presented a demand note to the teller and fled with an unknown amount of cash.
