DEL MAR, Calif., (KGTV)— “Enter at your own risk”— That’s what the signs at Del Mar Beach say after at least three shark sightings in as many days. There was also one sighting off the Coronado Coast around noon Wednesday.Del Mar is precisely the escape Kathleen Pierce and her family were after. “We have been suffering in the hundred-degree weather in Temecula so we thought we’d come down to the beach,” Pierce said. But they jumped into the water anyway, because she figured, the likelihood of actually coming up onto a shark was low. Drew said they were only about three to four feet long, so he ignored them. His friend was frightened and ran to the shore. “The sharks that were seen off of Del Mar, based on the size, we know that they were juveniles,” Research Biologist at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center, Heidi Dewar said. Dewar said if the sharks are under six feet, they are juveniles. They eat smaller fish, so they pose no threat to people. It is their parents we need to worry about. “If I saw a sub-adult or anything over 6 feet, I would probably personally get out of the water,” Dewar laughed. Pierce decided to say and keep an eye on her children at all times, because leaving early to get back to triple-digit temperatures, was not part of her plan. “If nothing else, we would just go a little bit more shallow water,” Pierce laughed. “We would not turn around and go back.”Dewar’s best advice to avoid shark attacks:1. (KGTV) -- Leaders with SANDAG, North County Transit District, and the chair for California's Transportation Committee met Friday off 7th Street in Del Mar to get a closer look at their bluff stabilization 0 million project, now 20 years in the making. Additions include sea wall improvement and a drainage system that runs parallel to the train tracks.NCTD Executive Director Matt Tucker said "We feel really confident. It'll secure the bluffs to allow continued safe movement on the corridor and it'll give time for the exact project we want to pursue and gain, to allow funding for a permanent solution."Natural disasters like heavy rain are a big concern that would cause tracks and bluffs to crumble down. After countless collapses in the past, beachgoers like Chris Smith, are often worried.Smith told ABC 10News, "I feel comfortable but in the back of my mind you know something could always happen." He also said awareness by leaders is a plus but the tracks should be moved entirely. "With the impact to what the train is providing to the cliff, at some point there's gonna be a negative impact to it," Smith added.Leaders said the new additions will buy them about 30 years, to plan a more permanent solution which could involve moving tracks into a tunnel system.Phase 5 of the project is slated to begin next summer, while plans for phase 6, the final phase, is still in the works. 1419

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after someone vandalized a park in Del Mar. According to authorities, someone drove onto the grass at Shores Park and did donuts overnight Sunday. Due in part to recent rain, authorities say the incident left extensive damage. The park is used by students of The Winston School and by pet owners as an off-leash park. The City of Del Mar is working to fix the damage but it’s unclear how much the repairs will cost at this time. 522
