"I think this is just everything for this community, right now we're really the only ones investing down here in the South Bay, in Chula Vista," says Matt Teichner, Sharp Chula Vista Senior Project Manager."Everyone who comes in here gets seen regardless of your ability to pay, we see people from both sides of the border here, and we are just full to the brim every day right now."It will be the first new hospital in San Diego's South Bay in more than 40 years.Planners say patient safety and infection control was the number one factor when designing the new hospital. The new hospital features advanced operating rooms as well as innovative technologies. (KGTV) - Chula Vista boxer Andrea Medina has a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream before she even turns 21.Monday, she'll begin fighting in the Team USA Olypmic Team Trials for boxing, with a chance to go to the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo."I feel like this is my time," she says. "It's what I've been working for. It's exciting. I'm ready."Medina has been boxing since she was 5 years old. She's already won 16 National Championships.At the trials, she'll face 7 other women vying for two spots at the Team USA training center in Colorado Springs."I've already fought half of them," she says of the competition. "And I've sparred against the other half. So I know who I'm going up against."Medina's father, Juan, is a former boxer and serves as her trainer. He says she's the favorite to advance out of the double-elimination tournament."I'm biased, but if I were to put a percentage on it, I'd say we have a high 90's percent chance," he says.He also says he's proud of the way his daughter has dedicated her life to the sport and the pursuit of her dream."You have to prioritize. You can't chose other things over boxing," he says. "Boxing is a jealous sport. So you have to pretty much surrender yourself to the sport. She made that choice and now we're here.'In addition to her boxing, Medina is also a full-time student at San Diego State. She's majoring in Criminal Justice.She says representing San Diego and her country in the Olympics would mean "everything.""This has been my dream since I was 8 years old and started competing," she says. (KGTV) - A South Bay family is mourning the loss of a beloved grandfather after a long battle with COVID-19.Salvador Munoz first started feeling sick in early August, developing a cough and fever, and then testing positive for COVID-19. About 10 days later, an ambulance rushed him to a hospital."He became disoriented, tired and couldn't get out of bed. When he talked to the paramedics, he couldn't really speak because he was short on his breath," said daughter-in-law Venessa Munoz.Venessa and his wife Bertha say he was admitted, and a week later, placed on a ventilator."He had complications and then would get better again. Just an emotional roller coaster for everybody," said Venessa.Salvador developed complications with his kidneys and then his heart. After 45 days in the ICU, Salvador Munoz, a father of five, and grandfather of seven, passed away at the age of 68."It's just so hard, so hard. I am relieved to know he is not suffering," said Bertha.Loved ones say Salvador, who owned his own cleaning business, was energetic, funny and joyful."Always the first one dancing. He lived to put smiles on everybody's faces," said Venessa.Bertha tell us she was with Salvador for more than 50 years and never spent a day apart."He was always a loving, caring, respectful man ... He's an angel," said BerthaBertha isn't sure how he contracted the virus. They rarely went out and wore masks."This is a serious thing, so take of yourself. Don’t take it for granted that nothing is going to happen to you, because it could," said Bertha.Bertha got sick around the same time her husband developed symptoms.
