(KGTV) -- Governor Gavin Newsom's new proposal would make California the first state to establish its own generic drug label in hopes of lowering the cost of medications, CalMatters reports. SAN DIEGO — A College Area nonprofit that is seeing record requests for its services may not survive the pandemic itself.Sharia's Closet provides free clothes to people who have an emergency need. Founder Shamine Linton said with the Coronavirus pandemic, the organization has already served more than 2,500 families in 2020, a record pace. "Due to unemployment, homelessness and domestic violence, our needs have grown," Linton said. Sharia's Closet, named for Linton's daughter, operates out of a former dental office near San Diego State University. It's divided into five rooms that are filled with clothes for children, teens, men and women - casual to professional. Linton said the organization gets connected to families through 54 social service organizations. While the demand is at an all-time high, the prospects of surviving past 2020 are not. "I don't think I'll have the money to continue for the next year," Linton said. Linton said the organization survives off community donations, but those have lagged in this economy. She has reduced hours for her staff of two, and the closet is now only open three days a week. The formerly manageable ,500 in monthly operating costs is now becoming daunting. "I'm hoping for financial donations to help keep our doors open, to help keep the service for the community that needs it the most," Linton said.Linton said Sharia's Closet has been able to receive public assistance for personal protective equipment, but not operations. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 52-year-old man was struck and gravely injured Sunday in a San Diego trailer park, and the motorist who hit him in a stolen Hummer was arrested.The incident began just after 11:10 a.m. when the San Diego police received a call from Chula Vista police who were involved in the pursuit of the stolen Hummer, SDPD Lt. Andra Brown said.The Hummer was snatched from a RoadOne impound yard in Chula Vista, SDPD Lt. Bryan Brecht told the media.The vehicle initially crashed at a gas station at 1400 Melrose Ave. in Chula Vista, but continued evading police south on Interstate 5, exiting into a trailer park at 1600 Palm Ave., Brown said.Officers tried to stop the driver but he sped away and hit the pedestrian, Brown said. It appeared the collision was intentional, Brown added.The 44-year-old driver was eventually taken into custody with help from a K-9 dog deployed to stop him, Brown said. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries before being taken into custody. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A disheveled man stabbed two strangers within a block of each other Friday in North Park and failed to commandeer the second victim's car, authorities reported.The unidentified assailant -- who looked to be about 30 years old and homeless -- first attacked a 25-year-old pedestrian in the 4200 block of Ohio Street about 8 a.m., stabbing him in the leg and running into a nearby supermarket parking lot, according to San Diego police.A short time later, he tried to steal a 57-year-old man's car near the intersection of Howard Avenue and 30th Street, but when the victim resisted, the assailant stabbed him three or four times in the right arm, then fled on foot to the south, Sgt.
