The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning from noon Thursday through 6 p.m. Friday for the inland valleys and mountains. East to northeast winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts as high as 50 miles per hour and isolated gusts as high as 60 miles per hour. To make matters worse, humidity is expected to range between 5 and 10 percent with poor overnight recovery. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans should get their flu shots before the flu season typically starts, county health officials said Wednesday.Most flu cases are reported between the end of October and April or May, according to the County Health and Human Services Agency.It takes about two weeks after receiving the flu shot to develop immunity to the virus, said officials.“People should get vaccinated before the worst of the flu season gets here,” said Wilma Wooten, M.D., M.P.H., County public health officer. “The vaccine is safe and effective and is available across the region.”342 people in San Diego County died of the virus during the last flu season, officials said. Most of the deaths were among those over 65, with underlying medical conditions. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Residents in Ocean Beach are taking their concerns over what they say is a dangerous intersection to the OB Planning Board.Isaac Darby, Vice President of the OB Neighborhood Watch, says the intersection in question is Saratoga Ave. and Ebers St., situated near a children’s park and blocks away from Ocean Beach Elementary.The OB Neighborhood Watch group wants to see a four-way stop sign at the intersection. “People kind of pick up momentum seeing that the stop sign on Santa Monica is the last one all the way before the stoplight at Voltaire, so it’s kind of the last stop before you just can bonsai out of town,” said Darby.In addition to speeding, he says large trucks are often parked on the street causing blind spots. Darby says the intersection is most dangerous during the morning and evening commutes, for both drivers and pedestrians.Darby’s initial application to the city for a four-way stop sign was denied; he was told it didn’t meet city requirements. Now he and other residents are taking their concerns to the OB Planning Board in hopes of building a stronger case.The OB Planning Board Chair says the board can request a traffic study. Once it's complete, the city will review it and make a recommendation. “My plea is do something proactive before we have to be reactive and someone gets hurt or worse,” said Darby. “A lot of the little accidents and fender benders aren’t reported.”Darby says the community is only growing and that they hope to get ahead of problems. 1518

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Rideshare drivers all over California are on strike protesting recent pay cuts by both Uber and Lyft. A small but vocal group of the drivers gathered at the San Diego airport Monday morning, opting to take part in a statewide protest against the companies they say are taking money out of their pockets. Recently, Uber announced it would be cutting drivers wage from 80 cents per mile to 60 cents. Workers say that’s on top of other cuts they’ve dealt with over the years. Drivers who spoke with 10News say other states like New York require companies to pay a minimum rate of more than per hour. Uber and Lyft both issued statements after the protest.Uber said in part, “…we're introducing a new Quest promotion feature, while also changing the per minute, per mile and minimum fare rates. These changes will make rates comparable to where they were in September."Lyft told 10News: "We are always open to conversations around how we can make Lyft better for drivers, but what we hear from the majority is that this is a flexible option that works for them." 1090
