CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, S.C. — The body of an 11-month-old girl whose disappearance prompted an Amber Alert has been found dead in a diaper box, her mother is reportedly in custody. According to WBTV, the mother, 19-year-old Breanna Lewis, had initially told officials that she was walking to her mailbox carrying her daughter when a man violently stole the baby out of her arms. The baby, Harlee Lane Lewis, was found dead a few hours later.Chesterfield County Sheriff Jay Brooks told The Associated Press on Tuesday that the body was found inside a diaper box in a field about 1,000 yards behind a home in Chesterfield, South Carolina.Brooks says the Amber Alert was canceled “because we don’t think there was a kidnapping.” The mother was then taken into custody and is being questioned, along with other family members, according to WCIV. The mother has been charged with filing a false police report, according to WSOC. CAPE CORAL, Fla. -- Police arrested a Cape Coral man Sunday morning for taking target practice in his apartment after adjoining neighbors found bullet holes in their bedroom.61-year-old Ivan Bakh is charged with Shooting Into a Dwelling, and Reckless Discharge of Firearm in Public/Private Place.According to Cape Coral Police, neighbors reported being woken up by a loud bang and found a large hole in their headboard, right over their heads.Further investigation also found bullet holes into the opposite wall and in the far wall of the adjacent living room.Police contacted the next door neighbor, Bakh, in the apartment building located in the 3400 block of Skyline Boulevard.  Officers located the room opposite the neighbor's bedroom, which contained a large thick book against the wall with a red circle drawn on it.  The book appeared to be used as a target, and had been penetrated by three rounds.A 9mm casing was located in the hallway between the bathroom and the bedroom of Bakh's residence. Also located inside the home was a safe containing a 9mm Glock. The rounds located inside the magazine of the Glock handgun were a match to the 9mm spent casing located on the ground inside the residence. Bakh was arrested and transported to the Lee County Jail. 1305

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. (KGTV) - Hundreds of Marines recovering from injuries are at Camp Pendleton this week for the Warrior Games Trials. They're competing to represent the Marines at the National Games, but also finding new ways to heal from their injuries."It helps you know you're not alone," says Lance Corporal Jay Alan Davis, who was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder while on duty.This is LC Davis' first time at the games. He says it's been uplifting to find a sense of camaraderie among the athletes."If you're able to sit there and talk to somebody about it, they're more likely to go to you," he says. "Then you don't have to feel alone. You don't have to be alone."That's the same sentiment that brought Tisha Knickerbocker to the games in 2012. Tisha was a life-long athlete until she broke her back. Finding a way to compete still has helped her mental recovery."It improved everything," she says. "It was great. I really can't find a word that accurately describes the feeling that it gave me to get an old part of myself back."The games run from March 4-12 at Camp Pendleton. CA?ON CITY, Co. -- The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park has been a place providing natural beauty and adrenaline rushing rides for 91 years.“It’s history,” said Chad Harris, who works at the admissions desk. “It’s one of the most iconic places in the United States, and I feel honored to work here.” Harris said the park has been a special part of his life. He was an intern at the park several years ago and then came back to work full-time.“My family worked here, my brother, my sister my mom,” Harris said. “I wanted to come back to this place and have a career here.” But seven years ago, Harris watched decades of memories go up in flames. The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park was destroyed by a wildfire. The bridge was nearly all that was left.The heartbreak of the fire—only preparing Harris and his team for the challenges that COVID-19 would bring.“I honestly thought the fire was the worst thing that could happen to us,” said Peggy Gair, who manages public relations for the park.Gair has been with the park for more than 20 years and said the virus was a new strain of devastation.“Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d be closed for that many weeks, the two and a half months that we were,” Gair said. She said the fire was different—the park had insurance and was prepared to rebuild. No one could have prepared them for the pandemic.Just before the pandemic hit, employees spent dozens of hours and thousands of dollars hiring 30 new employees. Days later, they had to let everyone go, and now, the process to rehire is more complicated than ever before.Gair is signed up for a new way to find workers: a live, virtual job fair. She’s hoping to fill dozens of open positions around the park. Some of those jobs have been available since last year, and now, Gair believes the extra 0 a week in unemployment benefits is playing a role in keeping people from applying.“There’s jobs available,” Gair said. “People aren’t excited to go back to work. They want to wait.” Gair is hoping that after July 31, more people will come to her park looking for work.Despite the struggle, Gair said she looks at the park today like she did in 2013—as a beacon of hope.
