SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mostra Coffee, the San Diego-based coffee company that recently won the award for Best Roaster in the U.S., has opened its second brick-and-mortar store.The move is a risk, as many small businesses had to close or scale back during the coronavirus pandemic."Being an entrepreneur, it's just something that you pretty much fight for, and you are you're kind of programmed to just take a leap off the cliff even though you don't know what's happening," said Jelynn Malone, one of Mostra's co-owners.The new location is in 4S Ranch, an area of town that asked Mostra to move in. A petition in 2019 calling for the new location got more than 1,500 signatures."It was something that the community rallied for, and we felt that the community deserved it," said Malone. "So we just piecemeal this thing and slowly worked our way through to the point where we can actually open."But Malone admits it was scary taking that kind of risk during the Pandemic."Being a small business with over 20 employees, including my own family, it was very troubling and scary," she said.The company went through layoffs in the spring, and work on the new location slowed to a crawl. To keep the business going, Mostra built a website and app to allow for curbside pick-up and online ordering.Now that the new 4S Ranch location is open, Malone and her co-owners say the struggle has made their success more enjoyable."I'm so happy we made this decision, and I'm so happy with how the shop turned out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a homeless man a Mission Valley father says tried dragging his daughter into bushes before she was able to escape.Chris Gilbert says his 11-year-old daughter went to check the mail Saturday around 2 p.m. on the 5900 block of Caminito Deporte when the incident happened.After walking across the street to check the mail, Gilbert says his daughter felt hands on her shoulders.RELATED: San Diego Homelessness Czar to go on leave to open Mormon temple"She thought it was me, sneaking up playing a game,” Gilbert said.Then, Gilbert says, the man grabbed the 11-year-old by the neck and started dragging her toward some bushes.“She told me he put his hands on her shoulders from behind and was holding her, turned around and kicked him in the shin, got loose and ran into the house and found me upstairs.”That’s when Gilbert ran downstairs to confront the homeless man, hitting him in the shoulder as a warning.RELATED: Oceanside residents demand solution to homelessness issue“I said, ‘you need to get out of here,’ then he started hitting me.”Gilbert’s daughter describes the man as six foot, two inches tall, between the ages of 40 to 45 with thick glasses. In the City of San Diego alone, hosts earned about million and saw 345,000 guests. On Wednesday, Fashion Valley will announce a project to add what it describes as inviting public spaces, enriched landscaping, broader dining and gathering places, tranquil outdoor lounges and water features, and increased personal shopping and valet services. It's the mall's biggest project since it added a second story in the mid-1990s. Vicki Hanor, a senior vice president with Simon Malls, said in a statement Fashion Valley is home to more than 50 retailers exclusive to San Diego, and prides itself on providing the ultimate shopping and dining experience. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One San Diego restaurant has been awarded one of the most prestigious accolades given to eateries.Chef William Bradley's restaurant Addison at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar was given one Michelin star in the guide's first California edition. The guide awards between one and three stars to restaurants, meaning either "a very good restaurant in its category" (one star), "excellent cooking, worth a detour" (two stars), or "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey" (three stars).Addison, a contemporary French restaurant, was San Diego's only restaurant to receive a star and one of 90 to receive at least one star in the California guide.RELATED: Michelin names several San Diego restaurants as 'hidden gems'In a statement to 10News, Bradley said the award is "humbling."
