SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diegans will soon have four new restaurants for dining along the San Diego Bay, as Mayor Kevin Faulconer joined Port of San Diego officials and The Brigantine Inc. for the ribbon cutting ceremony Monday for Portside Pier. Portside Pier is an over-the-water dining complex that has been years in the making. It will have four restaurants -- Brigantine on the Bay, Miguel's Cocina, Ketch Grill & Taps and Portside Coffee & Gelato. The dining complex replaced Anthony's Fish Grotto, a staple for 52 years along the bay. The dining complex is now owned by The Brigantine Inc. The restaurants are opening amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of the restaurants have plenty of outdoor space to seat about 500 people, with all social distancing guidelines in place. The complex has capacity for about 1,000 people, once pandemic restrictions are lifted. Portside Pier is the first of several projects along the waterfront, to improve and update the embarcadero. The coffee and gelato bar are already open. The other restaurants officially open on July 28. 1090

And with the help of places like, Kitchen's For Food, the non-profit is working to provide healthy food for those San Diegans in need."Half a million San Diegans are food insecure, and these are individuals that don't know where healthy food comes from," says Food System Alliance Executive Director Elly Brown Food System Alliance works with their network group, to get donated and surplus healthy food into the hands of those in need. At the same time, their goal is to look at the issues across the entire food system, and find solutions. "When I'm talking about a food system, I'm talking about the chain of events that take food from seed, all the way to your plate. From the farming and fishing in our community, to the way food is distributed, all the way to the issues of waste. We are a powerful network of over 150 organizations, from diverse sectors that are coming together around this mission."However, the current pandemic has disrupted the food distribution chain, while at the same time, the need for food has increased."Food insecurity has risen, and there are tremendous hardships for food workers and food businesses in our community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County has seen possible early signs of a COVID-19 resurgence, after four community outbreaks were reported Friday.Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county's public health officer, said the county has recorded four community coronavirus outbreaks in the last seven days.One of the newly reported outbreaks included an unnamed restaurant. That outbreak remains under investigation, Wooten added."We had only about three community outbreaks in the month of May," Wooten said.Of the county's 56 active outbreaks, 13 are in the community setting, which have included office buildings, churches, parties, and "unauthorized weddings" in the past.One of San Diego County's 13 triggers which could cause the county to reverse loosened restrictions includes seven community outbreaks in a week. Wooten said Friday that the county is currently "green" on all triggers.County officials encouraged San Diegans to continue wearing facial coverings when around other non-household members, wash their hands regularly, and stay home if they are feeling sick. 1068

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft could shut down in California as early as Friday due to a judge's ruling ordering the companies to classify their drivers as employees, not contractors. Uber and Lyft have warned their users and drivers about the possible shutdown. Both companies have appealed the ruling. The issue stems from Assembly Bill 5, a law that classifies contractors as employees, giving them the right to unionize, have access to minimum wage, overtime, paid sick leave and workers compensation benefits. Some Uber and Lyft drivers are in favor of AB5, but many others say they would like to continue working as independent contractors because of the flexibility the job allows them.
