Be honest. How often do you read the fine print when signing important documents? It turns out some people read the fine print, and in one case, it earned a woman ,000. SquareMouth, an insurance company that provides travel coverage, launched a contest last month that stated that the first person to contact the company would win a ,000 prize. The catch was that the contest's announcement was buried within the fine print of an insurance contract. Donelan Andrews of Georgia read about the contest on Page 7 of her insurance contract. It only took 23 hours after the contest began for SquareMouth to find a winner. According to the company, it had sold 73 policies with contest information before Andrews contacted them. Andrews said in a press release that she, as a home economics and family consumer science teacher, emphasizes reading the fine print to her students. “I used to put a question like that midway through an exam, saying ‘If you’re reading this, skip the next question.’ That caught my eye and intrigued me to keep reading," she said. SquareMouth launched the contest as a way to highlight the importance of reading the details of a contract. "Over the past 16 years, we’ve learned that many travelers buy travel insurance and just assume they’re covered if anything goes wrong, without actually reading the details of their policy," the company said in a release. "However, this often leads to claims for losses that are not covered. This lack of understanding is one of the biggest reasons travel insurance claims are denied."SquareMouth also made a ,000 contribution to Reading Is Fundamental, as well as ,000 to the two schools where Andrews teaches. Andrews is going to use the winnings to go on another trip, this time to Scotland with her husband for their wedding anniversary. 1827

As computers, tablets and cellphones have become a growing part of our lives, the exposure to blue light emitted from these devices increases. While blue light exposure has been known to cause strain in eyes, Oregon State University researchers studied the effect of blue light exposure on aging. Based on to their findings, exposure to blue light could cause aging to accelerate. For their study, researchers used common fruit flies and exposed them to 12 hours of blue LED light and 12 hours of darkness. To compare, researchers kept a group of flies in total darkness, as well as a group of flies that were exposed to light that had the blue wavelengths filtered out. The researchers said they chose fruit flies because their cellular and developmental mechanisms are similar to humans. The researchers said that flies exposed to blue LED light sustained damage to their retinal cells and brain neurons and had impaired locomotion. Even more stunning, some of the flies, which exhibited some brain damage, were mutants that did not develop eyes."The fact that the light was accelerating aging in the flies was very surprising to us at first,” said Jaga Giebultowicz, a professor of integrative biology at Oregon State. “We’d measured expression of some genes in old flies, and found that stress-response, protective genes were expressed if flies were kept in light. "We hypothesized that light was regulating those genes. Then we started asking, 'what is it in the light that is harmful to them,' and we looked at the spectrum of light. It was very clear cut that although light without blue slightly shortened their lifespan, just blue light alone shortened their lifespan very dramatically.” 1708

Attorney General Bill Barr said Friday the Justice Department will have special counsel Robert Mueller's report ready to release by "mid-April, if not sooner."In a letter to the chairmen of the House and Senate judiciary committees, Barr said his department is "well along" making redactions, with the assistance of the special counsel. Barr said the report is "nearly 400 pages long," not including appendices and tables and "sets forth the Special Counsel's findings, his analysis, and the reasons for his conclusions."Barr offered to testify after the report is released, suggesting May 1 for the Senate committee and May 2 for the House committee.Barr wrote that he and Mueller were working to redact four types of information from the report: grand jury material, sensitive intelligence material, information that involves ongoing investigations, and "information that would unduly infringe on the personal privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties."But the redactions Barr is working on are unlikely to satisfy Democrats. House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler of New York asked Barr to work with the committee to ask the courts to make grand jury information public, according to a Democratic aide, who said Barr would not commit to doing so in a call earlier this week.Democrats argue there is precedent for releasing grand jury material, and the aide said they see that as the "primary obstacle" to making the full Mueller report public. 1478
