SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the announcement that Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine has been given an Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, questions now focus on when it will be available in San Diego County and who will be receiving it first.Guidelines set by the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, recommends health care workers receive the vaccination first, along with residents and workers of nursing homes and long-term care facilities.California is set to receive 327,000 doses of the vaccine in the first round of allocation. Of those San Diego County is scheduled to receive 28,275 doses, which is expected to only cover about 70% of the first group of recipients identified in Phase 1. San Diego County is expected to receive 28,275 doses of California's first allocation of 327,000 vaccine doses in mid-December. Wooten said there is about 39,000 personnel in the acute care hospital section alone.WATCH MORE IN OUR REPORT ABOVEMore on COVID-19 VaccineIf COVID-19 vaccine is approved, UC San Diego Health anticipates first vaccinations soon afterAmid rollout of COVID-19 vaccines, officials warn of fake vaccines sold onlineHow first COVID-19 vaccines will be distributed to San Diego County's health care workersEXPANDED COVERAGE OF CORONAVIRUS IN SPECIAL SECTION 1325

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two years after Lime scooters hit the pavement, the company has reached a milestone - surpassing 100 million rides globally. The company is thanking its riders who span across more than 120 cities, 30 countries, and five continents.A San Diego chef is one of those riders; in fact, he too reached a personal milestone. "My name is Justin Vaiciunas, and I am San Diego's #1 Lime rider!"A Lime representative called Vaiciunas last week to tell him about the accomplishment; Vaiciunas clocked in nearly 600 rides this year."I live right over off of Pacific Highway, and I scooter from there to work every day and back, and then also all around; even to Balboa Park, North Park, everywhere I can," said Vaiciunas. Vaiciunas likes how accessible and easy the scooters make it getting around downtown. He now uses them for 80 percent of his commutes. "I used to spend about in gas a week; now I maybe spend that a month."The company says with the growth they've increased education outreach as well as efforts to be good stewards in the cities they serve. A San Diego Lime Patrol Team picks up misplaced scooters. As for Vaiciunes, his next goal is being the country's #1 Lime rider.Last month Lime's future in San Diego was called into question when the City claimed the company violated geo-fencing rules. The city then began the process to revoke Lime's permit. But a Lime spokesperson says the company looks forward to an upcoming hearing to make its case. A date for that hearing has not yet been set. 1530

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Tucked within City Heights are natural wonders along a winding system of trails and walkways. But many of those scenes of nature go unnoticed. Not by intention, though.Justin Boone, owner of Burly and the Bean, noticed visitors coming into his coffee shop looking for a way to connect to the nearby canyons and beyond.RELATED: Mariachi dances above Interstate 5 in San DiegoThe trend got Boone thinking. So he began leading hikes once a week through the canyons for the outdoorsy, java-hungry customers, and anyone in between."I decided to do a user-friendly map and started doing the canyon hikes," Boone told 10News anchor Ariel Wesler. Wesler and 10News Chief Photographer Steve Reusch joined Boone on a hike for a look at how he's bringing the local community together. 824

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- While face masks are required for everyone at San Diego International Airport, Southwest Airlines is taking it a step further. The airline said they are now requiring all passengers to don a face mask for the safety of crew members and other travelers.Southwest’s policy, which took effect Monday, has one exception -- children under the age of 2 will not have to wear a face covering. In a statement, Southwest said, in part: “If a customer is unable to wear a face covering or mask for any reason, Southwest regrets that will be unable to transport the individual. In those cases, Southwest hopes the customer will allow them to welcome them onboard in the future, if public health guidance, or other safety related circumstances regarding face coverings changes.”Before this, Southwest had already stepped up the cleaning and disinfecting of their planes. The airline is also booking a limited number of people on board. They’re also using HEPA air filters to circulate air through the cabin on every flight. Southwest said these specialized air filters are similar to the technology found in hospitals. On Wednesday, American Airlines will join Southwest and implement the same face covering requirement. 1232

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - For the second time this week, Rancho Bernardo High School Principal Dave LeMaster met with concerned parents Thursday regarding Monday's school threat.Students arrived for class Monday morning to find violent threats spray-painted onto around 20 locations on campus. They all indicated a school shooting would happen that day at noon, with messages including "murder, blood, chaos" and "Florida was nothing".LeMaster told 10News police arrived quickly and within minutes determined there was no credible threat. An email notification went out to parents around 8:30am, after class had started, although LeMaster said if there was a danger, notification would have been sent out much sooner."We work with law enforcement to make sure the situation is secure and everyone is safe, and oftentimes, communication comes after that,” said Poway Unified School District spokesperson Christine Paik.Word of the incident quickly spread among students and their family members, which provides a challenge for administrators to inform parents."In the age of social media and texting, sometimes those unofficial communications will beat us to it ," Paik said. "But we have a responsibility to be accurate before we are able to put out those messages.”One parent told 10News she thinks the school should immediately notify parents of any threat to the school to give them the option of keeping their kids away from campus, but other parents worry that doing so could cause unnecessary panic and disruption.PUSD said it will work on improving the time it takes to send notifications to parents. The district is currently working on adding a text message option for parents to receive such notifications.10News reached out to the San Diego Police Department for an update on its investigation into the threats, but has not heard back. 1856
