A top Republican official in the area President Donald Trump is visiting Tuesday is asking him to wear a mask.The president held a campaign rally event inside an airport hangar in Winston-Salem. The campaign has said masks, hand sanitizer and temperature checks will be provided for attendees.Dave Plyler, the Republican chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, told local media he believes Trump should wear a mask while visiting."It's been ordered by the governor," Plyler said of the state's face-covering mandate. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in North Carolina, do as the governor says."Trump took the stage Tuesday evening without a mask on. While some in attendance, especially those seated directly behind Trump, wore masks, the majority did not, according to photos submitted by the Associated Press.North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s mask mandate is still in effect. Cooper is a democrat."He (Trump) is a citizen of the United States, but he is also a guest in our county," Plyler told the Winston-Salem Journal. "Without a mask, he could get sick, and he could blame the governor."Plyler is a supporter of the president and is pleased he is making the trip to Winston-Salem. However, he believes if Trump wore a mask, it would set the right example for other people."You know what would be neat? If before he got off the plane if he gave everybody a box of Make America Great Again masks," Plyler told CNN.The president has encouraged wearing masks and keeping socially distant during the pandemic. A Thunderbirds pilot died after his F-16 Fighting Falcon crashed on Wednesday during a routine training flight over the Nevada Test and Training Range.Nellis Air Force Base says an investigation is underway to figure out the cause of the crash. The pilot's identity has not been released.The F-16 was assigned to Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas. 361

A Southwest Airlines plane flying from Fort Lauderdale to BWI was hit by a pickup truck after landing at the airport.  It happened early Monday morning.   Passengers said the white truck crashed into the side of the plane on the runway.  An ambulance was at the scene, but according to passengers, no one was injured.  Passengers were not allowed to leave while crews continued their investigation.  Southwest Airlines has not released any comment but the company did respond to a tweet from one of the passengers on the plane.  A passenger named Michael Simon posted this tweet: "So our southwest flight just got into an accident with a pickup truck. Guess that makes me an airplane crash survivor."  874

A Thanksgiving night shooting at a mall in Alabama left two people injured and a gunman dead, authorities said Thursday.The incident at the Riverchase Galleria in Hoover started with a physical altercation between an 18-year-old and the 21-year-old gunman, police said. The confrontation occurred in the mall, near Footaction and JC Penney stores.Police do not know how the confrontation began, but "we do not believe at this point the 18-year-old was armed," Hoover police Capt. Gregg Rector said.The gunman opened fire, shooting the teen twice in the torso, according to police. An officer confronted the gunman as he ran away from the scene and fatally shot him, Rector said.The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office investigates the incident, police said.A 12-year-old girl was also struck and injured, but it's unclear by whom, Rector said. The two people injured have been hospitalized.The girl had a single gunshot wound and has gone through surgery and "does not have life-threatening injuries," Rector told CNN.Witnesses described hearing gunshots inside the mall, which was open late on Thanksgiving. The scene was chaotic, with customers screaming and staff working to lock down the shopping center, witnesses told CNN affiliate WBRC.The Hoover Police Department said the scene is now secure.Hoover is about 10 miles from Birmingham.Brookfield Properties, which owns the shopping center, said it was devastated by the shooting."We are working closely with the Hoover Police Department and are grateful for their swift action to contain the situation," spokeswoman Lindsay Kahn said."While there is no current danger to our community, the shopping center will remain closed for tonight." 1768
