BEIJING, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- The value of yuan, China's currency Renminbi, strengthened for a third consecutive day against U.S. dollar Friday as the central parity rate of the yuan was set at 6.6497 per U.S. dollar, according to the data released by the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.Friday's central parity rate beat the previous record of 6.6582 on Oct. 14.The yuan has picked up its strength against the U.S. dollars and seen increased volatility in the trading days since the People's Bank of China (PBOC), the central bank, announced on June 19 this year to increase exchange rate flexibility.Based on Friday's central parity, the Chinese currency has strengthened against the U.S. dollar by about 2.65 percent from the rate of 6.8275 per U.S. dollar that was set a day before the PBOC's pledge to increase flexibility.On China's foreign exchange spot market, the yuan can rise or fall 0.5 percent from the central parity rate during trading each day.The PBOC released the yuan's central parity rates against a basket of currencies -- the U.S. dollar, the euro, the Japanese yen, the Hong Kong dollar, the British pound and the Malaysian Ringgit.The yuan's parity rate against the euro was set by the central bank at 9.3259 Friday, higher from 9.3491 on Oct. 14, the previous trading day.The yuan's rate against 100 yen was 8.1531 Friday, compared with 8.1611on Thursday.The yuan's rate against the British pound was 10.6305, compared with 10.6192 on the previous trading day.The central parity of RMB against the U.S. dollar is based on a weighted average of enquired prices from all market makers before the opening of the market in each business day.The central parity of RMB against the other five currencies is based on the central rate of RMB against the U.S. dollar of the same business day as well as the exchange rates of the five currencies against the U.S. dollar at 9 a.m. (0100 GMT) of the same business day in the international foreign exchange market.

Is it because they resent China's development path and hate China's political system?" BEIJING, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks rose for a third straight trading day Monday with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index closing up 0.96 percent, or 30.01 points, at 3,159.51.The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.54 percent, or 73.94 points, to finish at 13,807.3.Combined turnover declined to 453.1 billion yuan (68 billion U.S. dollars) from 459.17 billion yuan the previous trading day.Gainers outnumbered losers 743 to 132 in Shanghai and 950 to 140 in Shenzhen.Agricultural shares led the gains with a 5.39 percent rise amid increased inflation expectations and surging farm product prices.Some economists believe China's consumer price index (CPI), the main gauge of inflation, jumped 4 percent year on year in October.Yasheng Industrial Group, Yongan Forestry Group and Fengle Seed Company all rose by the daily limit of 10 percent, ending at 6.47 yuan, 12.84 yuan and 20.77 yuan, respectively.Local stocks in Shanghai continued their surge after Walt Disney Co. inked a deal Friday for its long-awaited theme park in the city.Shanghai Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone Development Co., Ltd rose 4.8 percent to 22.7 yuan while Shanghai Pudong Road and Bridge Construction Co. BEIJING, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Friday watched a classical Peking Opera show along with other audience in Beijing.The opera "Women General of Yang Family", which was staged at the Mei Lanfang Theatre, starred three generations of artists with the China National Peking Opera Company (CNPOC).The opera, set against the backdrop of warfares in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), eulogizes the patriotism demonstrated in Yang Family's battle against the invading Liao Kingdom and Western Xia Kingdom.The CNPOC created and rehearsed the opera in 1959, which was later widely believed to have marked a milestone for the development of Peking Opera with a history of nearly 200 years.
