SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A California Highway Patrol officer wrestled with a man who walked in lanes of SR-52 in University City Monday.The CHP received calls from concerned drivers about a man on the highway at Genesee Avenue and sent an officer to the scene about 1 p.m.When the officer arrived, the man refused to leave the road and wrestled with the officer who tried to arrest him.Two drivers stopped to help the officer subdue the man, the CHP said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A driver was shot while traveling on a Clairemont street Thursday night, according to police.At around 10:30 p.m., a man was driving in the 5800 block of Chateau Drive when he was hit by gunfire, San Diego police said.ABC 10News learned the injured man was able to drive a few blocks before the SUV crashed into an electrical box in front of San Diego Fire-Rescue Station 36.Firefighters and paramedics at the station heard the crash and rushed to help the victim, who had at least one gunshot wound on his upper body.The unidentified victim was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital, but his condition is unknown as of 9 a.m. Friday.Police said witnesses reported seeing a silver 4-door sedan leaving the shooting scene. 743

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A Camp Pendleton Marine was taken into custody this week after border officials say the Marine was trying to smuggle immigrants through a port of entry.The junior-enlisted Marine was taken into custody early Monday morning by U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to the 1st Marine Division at Camp Pendleton. The Marine was reportedly bringing undocumented immigrants into the port.The Marine is being held in civilian custody and CBP and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service were investigating. In July, 23 Marines were detained over human trafficking, drug distribution, and weapons charges, according to the base.Of those 1st Marine Division Marines, six have pleaded guilty at court martial appearances. Thirteen Marines have approved pre-trial agreements requesting separation from the Marines instead of court martials or waiving separation board processes. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Two men were shot Saturday evening while standing on a sidewalk in the Mountain View area of San Diego.It happened about 6 p.m. in the 1000 block of South 45th Street, said San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.The two victims were standing on the sidewalk with others, Heims said. "A vehicle was eastbound on Newton Avenue when it stopped in the intersection and someone inside fired multiple rounds at the group."A 44-year-old man was shot in the head and paramedics took him to a hospital, the officer said. "At this time, his injuries are non-life-threatening."A 29-year-old man was shot in the right arm and driven to a hospital by an unknown person, Heims said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A big step taken in the effort to get the San Diego Police Department to stop using a specific restraining maneuver during arrests.On Tuesday, the community review board voted to recommend that the department gets rid of what police call a carotid restraint in some circumstances.  "Have you ever been choked or had the life choked out of you? I can snap back too!" The public was allowed in the meeting but was not supposed to talk. Desiree Smith couldn't help herself, because this issue is personal. "My son was choked by police at a homecoming event at the school," she said. The community review board debated whether or not San Diego police officers should be able to use the carotid restraint.Police are currently allowed to use the tactic to subdue people that they are trying to detain. Smith told 10News she does not think the restraint maneuver should be used, ever."It's inhumane," she said.
