TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) -- Mexican authorities said a Chula Vista woman and her friend were gunned down at a family gathering in Tijuana. Investigators said the suspect is a Tijuana firefighter who shot at the two during a jealous rage.The victim was identified as 32-year-old Roxana Diaz."She was always smiling, she was kind of crazy," said Diaz' cousin Ivett Corral. "A happy lady."Tijuana investigators said Diaz went to visit a family friend, 39-year-old Carlos Roberto Trujillo, in Tijuana Aug. 15. They and another female friend met with several Tijuana firefighters at a get-together.Early the next morning, the three friends headed to Trujillo's home at Colonia Union. Police said the three firefighters ambushed the group, shooting at Trujillo and Diaz, and kidnapping the other woman.Trujillo died just outside his home. Diaz underwent surgery at Tijuana General Hospital but died Aug. 20 after she was transferred to UCSD Medical Center. "I start crying a lot because she was like a sister to me," Corral said. "She was more than a cousin. We grew up together."Police said after the firefighters kidnapped the woman, she screamed for help at a toll plaza on the way to Ensenada. Officers were alerted and arrested the firefighters.Mexican investigators said the alleged shooter, identified only as 27-year-old Ricardo N., is the boyfriend of the woman he and his co-workers kidnapped. They said he was jealous that she was socializing with her ex-boyfriend Trujillo and Diaz.Corral said Diaz was a long-time employee at Kentucky Fried Chicken on 3rd Street in Chula Vista. She worked hard to provide for her 16-year-old son.Trujillo's family said he worked at the Tijuana Town Hall. He leaves behind three children."We just want justice," Corral said. Trujillo's family told 10News the suspects are being held in Ensenada on suspicion of kidnapping but have not been charged with the murders of Trujillo and Diaz. Photos taken by 10News show makeshift camps where migrants hid in tents while others shielded themselves with tarps as rain drenched the area. Many of the migrants waiting to claim asylum say they’ve lost hope following a clash Sunday in which hundreds of migrants rushed the border in a show of force. TIJUANA, Mexico (KGTV) — Mexican authorities arrested three people in connection to the slayings of two teenage Honduran migrants.Police executed a search warrant in Tijuana Tuesday night after they said Esmerelda N., Carlos N., and Francisco N. kidnapped and killed the teenagers over the weekend. 10News tracked down Uriel Gonzalez, the General Coordinator of the YMCA Homes for Migrant Youth - Mexico. He said the three unaccompanied minors traveled alone from their home towns in Honduras to seek temporary refuge in Mexico. For the time they were at the shelter they were well behaved. So when they went missing on Saturday around lunch time, his staff believed they had walked off their open-door campus to visit friends at another shelter. When one came back seriously injured, he realized they were targeted.“They were kidnapping the kids that are in a very vulnerable position, who are not Mexicans. Migrants are very attractive for organized crime, because of the extortion and the money they can ask to their families,” Gonzalez said. According to Baja California prosecutors, three Honduran migrants seeking refuge at the Tijuana YMCA Youth Shelter were on their way to El Barretal, the main caravan shelter Saturday night. A witness told authorities two men and one woman robbed and kidnapped the three boys during the walk.Later that night, the bodies of two boys, 16 and 17 years old, were found in a Tijuana alleyway. They had been stabbed and strangled. Despite being seriously injured, a third teen managed to escape. According to the Youth Shelter organizer, the boys arrived in the US-Mexico border city as part of the migrant caravan about two to three weeks ago. In the time they were at the shelter, they never had any disciplinary issues.Shelter staff members have since asked the Mexican government to increase security measures in the area.Investigators said the deaths are among the many recent violent incidents happening in and around the migrant shelters in Tijuana. On Tuesday night, two people walking on the street threw a can of tear gas into El Barretal. The migrants were not injured and the facility was not damaged. Investigators said this is another example of the growing tensions and impatience between asylum seekers and local Mexicans. 2287

To Cristal Franklin, she was so much more.“I saw her as my aunt. The one who cooked dinner for my roommate from college when I came home.  The one who bought the best gifts on earth for Christmas and birthdays,” Franklin said.Franklin says she visited her aunt in the days before she died, hoping for a miracle, but knowing her time would likely be short  She got word she had passed as she left town.“We were taking my daughter to college when we got the news. I made it on the plane. When the door closed, I lost it,” said Cristal.She drove by the Charles H Wright Museum of African American History the night before the public visitation and saw already overwhelming crowds. In her grief, she decided to take food to those first in line and learn about what her aunt meant to them.Cristal, a clothing designer, known as CFranks, decided to make a shirt that listed he aunt's accomplishments.“I want people to know she was more than a singer,” Franklin said. “She was a civil rights activist.”“I want people to listen to the old songs and play them for their children," she said.She shared memories of her aunt helping students pay for college, seeing families lose their belongings in a fire and responding, helping activists get out of prison, and paying for funerals of those in need.“It is overwhelming because she is our aunt,” Franklin said.Cristal is hoping people learn about her aunt through her creation. You can find it here. 1531
