SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- State health officials are working to catch up on a large backlog of COVID-19 tests.According to Marik Ghaly, California'sCalifornia's Health and Human Services Secretary, a server outage on July 25 led to a delay in lab records coming into the reporting system.Ghaly says they also realized they weren't getting data from one of their largest commercial labs for five days, between July 31 and August 4, because the state neglected to renew a certification."We apologize. "We are reporting this data to the counties based on the date the specimen was collected so we can attribute it to the appropriate date."Ghaly points out the state froze the county monitoring list last week, so the problem should have affected any decision-making policies. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Some workers hit hard by the pandemic are now turning to an entrepreneur program at San Diego Miramar College.In late March, Billie Guinto got word that her job booking events for an event planning agency was put on pause by COVID-19."My first reaction was dread ... If this lasts too long, I'm going to deplete my savings," said Guinto.Guinto tried to sign up for unemployment but has yet to hear back. She renewed her realtor license and then decided to take a chance."I had to pivot quickly, and I knew this program was getting off to a really good start," said Guinto.She enrolled in the summer session of Miramar College's REC Innovation Lab, a year-old incubator program aimed at budding entrepreneurs, especially in underrepresented communities.The now-virtual lab includes courses, pitch sessions, networking, and mentoring. For Guinto, the program is helping her grow her big idea."I decided to create All Source Events, an application for professional event planners," said Guinto.Her app will be a one-stop-shop for event planning, from scheduling to marketing to ticketing. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld Wednesday released an endangered turtle rescued off the Oregon coast back into the ocean.The olive ridley sea turtle named Coral was rescued after being found stranded on an Oregon beach.SeaWorld says the 18 to 25-year-old turtle was taken to a Seattle aquarium for rehabilitation before being flown to San Diego for more treatment.Once the ocean temperature off the coast became stable around 70 degrees, Coral was released back into her ocean home about 10 miles off the San Diego coast.Experts installed a tracking device on the turtle’s shell in hopes of tracking Coral’s location as well as ocean temperature.According to SeaWorld, olive ridley turtles are found throughout the Pacific ocean, though they rarely stray any further north than Southern California. 803
