BAY VILLAGE, Ohio — A priest in Bay Village says someone called police about a homeless person sleeping on a bench. It turns out it was actually a statue of Jesus.The sculpture was created by Timothy Schmalz, and depicts Jesus wrapped in a blanket and lying on a bench.Within 20 minutes of the sculpture's installation at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, police were called, according to the church's pastor, Alex Martin. He tweeted that an officer told him someone had called to report a homeless person sleeping on a park bench.Scripps station WEWS in Cleveland reached out to Bay Village police, who have not yet responded to a request for more information.According to the church's website, because Bay Village isn't impacted much by poverty, the statue is meant to remind residents how serious homelessness is in the world.The temporary installment will be on display until Dec. 1.The church is currently raising money to try and help the homeless. Baltimore Police confirmed a man was hit by a light rail train and cut in half at 8:35 a.m. Thursday.The accident occurred at North Howard and West Lexington Street, roughly a block south of the Lexington Market Light Rail stop. Police believe the incident occurred somewhere between Mulberry Street and Saratoga Street, with the person's body ultimately becoming dislodged from the train near West Lexington Street, Baltimore Police Chief Spokesman T.J. Smith said in an update around 10:30 a.m. There were passengers on the train at the time of the incident, Maryland Transit Administration Public Information Officer Paul Sheppard confirmed. Investigators are operating in a large scene that spans Howard Street from Mulberry Street south to Baltimore Street. Bicycle injury accidents have ticked up in the city of San Diego this year, as the city has seen thousands of dockless bikes appear across its neighborhoods since January.New city data shows that there were 130 injury accidents involving bicyclists through May 1, 2018, up from 102 in the same period of 2017.A San Diego Police spokesman said it would take more research to determine whether the uptick is related to dockless bikes. However, the data shows that some parts of the city are seeing fewer incidents, while others are seeing more. Hillcrest, for instance, has seen improvement. By May 1, 2017, there were already seven injury accidents in the heart of the neighborhood. This year there have not been any.However, there has been an increase on Mission Boulevard along the coast, which has no bike lane and can get narrow. In 2017, there was just one injury accident on the boulevard. Through May 1, that number was up to six. Claire Mathena, who lives in Hillcrest, said she can't afford a car but the dockless bikes help her get around."Everyone's in a hurry, I just don't think people are paying attention. I just don't think it has anything to do with the dockless bikes," she said. Meanwhile, others, like Stephan Vance, choose to commute daily by bike. BASALT, Colo. — Firefighters battling the Lake Christine Fire got a special treat Friday when Neil Diamond stopped by to perform “Sweet Caroline” and other songs for them.Diamond and his wife came by an Incident Command Post to meet and thank the firefighters who have been fighting the blaze, which was estimated at 12,588 acres Sunday evening.
