SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two San Diego police officers answered an unusual call to duty when an emergency struck, leaving two young children alone.SDPD officers Daniel Clark and Adrianni Vital have been a part of the department for about a year.Last Friday night, police received a call about a father in San Ysidro having a medical emergency, but he did not have any family or others to watch his two young daughters.After he was taken to the hospital, Clark and Vital stayed behind to watch the man’s 2-year-old and 4-year-old daughters.“Just to put a smile on their face, it meant a lot, it was a great interaction; it just made my day,” said Vital. “We just want to show people that we are human, too, and we do want to give back, and sometimes it comes in different shapes and sizes in how we do it."The officers did everything they could to keep the girls entertained so they would not worry about their dad.Using his own experience as a father, Clark learned more about the children’s likes and dislikes, and the officers eventually found out the girls loved the song “Baby Shark.”ABC 10News learned the girls’ father is doing OK and the family was reunited after about two hours. 1190

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - UC San Diego Health received its first batch of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday, and the health care provider expects another shipment next week.“We expect next week to perhaps get 5,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine,” said Dr. Charles Daniels, Chief Pharmacy Officer at UC San Diego Health. Daniels added they could receive the shipment as soon as Monday or Tuesday, but no date has been finalized.The Moderna vaccine is still awaiting emergency use authorization from the FDA, which it could receive this week. Pfizer’s vaccine was the first to get such approval last week.UC San Diego received close to 3,000 doses of the Pfizer vaccine Tuesday and plans to begin administering shots to its highest risk health care workers at its Hillcrest and La Jolla locations Wednesday morning.On Tuesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said California was expected to get 393,000 more doses of the Pfizer vaccine next week, on top of the 327,000 it received this week. Newsom said California is also slated to receive 672,000 doses of Moderna’s vaccine by the end of the month.San Diego County has not given an estimated timeline to receive the Moderna vaccine or how large a shipment it expects.UC San Diego Health was part of the Moderna trial, but Dr. Daniels says it is not the reason for their access to the vaccine. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — With the pandemic prompting San Diegans to wear facial coverings, and practice physical distancing and stringent hand hygiene, flu season's start has been slowed.According to the county's Influenza Watch report published Oct. 21, San Diego County has reported 10 flu cases to date this season, compared to 320 cases at this time last year. Last year's season totaled 20,711 flu cases.The county says no influenza-related deaths have been reported so far this season. The CDC says the flu season in the U.S. typically occurs in the fall and winter, with the season peaking in December and February.County health officials say health precautions due to the coronavirus and an increase in the rate of residents receiving flu vaccinations have kept flu numbers low so far."Influenza activity has been very low so far this season in San Diego County. This may in part be due to the social distancing, hand washing, and mask wearing interventions instituted to reduce the transmission of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Seasonal influenza vaccinations are being recorded in the San Diego Immunization Registry at a higher rate than at this same point in any previous season, with 637,696 San Diegans immunized through week 42," the county's report said.Week 42 covers case totals up to the week ending Oct. 17.According to the county, 70% of this year's flu cases cover Influenza A, while 30% include Influenza B. 1445

Those are eviction lawsuits.A report by the group Tenants Together, a statewide organization for tenants’ rights, stated landlords file an average of 166,337 eviction lawsuits annually in California, with a total of 499,010 households facing eviction in the three-year period. If you are personally served, you have only five calendar days to respond. If someone is served for you, you may have an additional 10 days. Weekends are counted but the last day to respond cannot land on a weekend (or holiday). If it does, the 'last day' carries over to the next business day. There are many defenses which can be raised.”Curry said tenants should know their rights and try to talk with the landlord ahead of time. As summer heats up and brush dries out, Cal Fire is urging everyone to create a wildfire action plan. According to the agency, the plan should be familiar to all members of your household well in advance of a fire. This includes making an emergency supply kit and creating an evacuation plan. If you’re unsure how to start preparing a wildfire action plan, Cal Fire has some tips. Create an evacuation plan that includes:· A designated emergency meeting location outside the fire or hazard area. This is critical to determine who has safely evacuated from the affected area.· Several different escape routes from your home and community. Practice these often so everyone in your family is familiar in case of emergency.· Have an evacuation plan for pets and large animals such as horses and other livestock.· A Family Communication Plan that designates an out-of-area friend or relative as a point of contact to act as a single source of communication among family members in case of separation. (It is easier to call or message one person and let them contact others than to try and call everyone when phone, cell, and internet systems can be overloaded or limited during a disaster.) Be Prepared:· Have fire extinguishers on hand and train your family how to use them (check expiration dates regularly).· Ensure that your family knows where your gas, electric, and water main shut-off controls are located and how to safely shut them down in an emergency.· Assemble an Emergency Supply Kit for each person, as recommended by the American Red Cross. (See next section for details.)· Maintain a list of emergency contact numbers posted near your phone and in your emergency supply kit.· Keep an extra Emergency Supply Kit in your car in case you cannot get to your home because of fire or other emergency.· Have a portable radio or scanner so you can stay updated on the fire.· Tell your neighbors about Ready, Set, Go! and your Wildfire Action Plan.
