(KGTV) - A strip mall that had fallen into disrepair and attracted squatters has been placed into receivership, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.Located on the 7400 Block of Broadway, the property consisted of several buildings that had closed about a year ago after the city busted an illegal marijuana dispensary.But that’s when the real problems began.“Lots of police calls, criminal activities and police responses,” said Richardson Griswold, who was appointed as the receiver by a superior court judge on Friday.It came after the City of Lemon Grove had been granted a judgment against the owners of the property. The judgment required that the owners clean it up and properly secure it, but that was never completed.When the receiver arrived Friday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Department was called in to remove six people who had been living inside. One of them was found hiding in the attic. Four were taken into custody on existing warrants.Inside, Griswold said there was “heaps of trash, clothing, and no plumbing, so there was the smell of human feces and human urine.”He had already hired a crew to start clearing out the buildings and board up the access points. LEE COUNTY, Fla. -- A Fort Myers, Florida brewery is creating a beer with a derivative of marijuana. It doesn't contain the THC that makes you high, but it does affect the aroma. Point Ybel Brewing Company has developed their SowFlo IPA, which they say is infused with essential oils from marijuana plants.The brew is available at their brewery in cans right now, but they plan to debut another big batch on tap on April 20th.Chief Photojournalist Curt Tremper takes a closer look in the video above and lets the brewers break it down for you in their own words.  596

LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- 5G technology is the latest and greatest in wireless communication, but just how safe is it? A new cell phone tower near Lakeview Elementary School has parents concerned. “This just showed up overnight, There had been no explanation about it at all,” said Maria Tomasello. She and other parents say a county ordinance states the tower should be at least 300 feet from the school, but they were told this particular site was approved before the new rule.Parents are worried about the safety of the technology. “People might say that it hasn’t been studied enough and it’s safe, but why would we want to take that chance and expose our children and our staff.” RELATED: Protesters rally against 5G in San DiegoThe group says they’ve reached out to lawmakers and AT&T, but haven’t received the answers they want. 10News reached out to AT&T. The company said the tower in question is actually using 4G technology and there are no current plans for 5G at the site. Still, parents and many other concerned citizens have raised the question about the safety of 5G. Although parents are concerned, experts in the field say there’s nothing to worry about. “Let’s look at scientific studies done and not rely on anything people are putting out there about 5G,” said UCSD professor Sujit Dey. Dey is the director of the Center for Wireless Communications. He cautions people to be careful about where they get their information. RELATED: 5G speeds: National City seeks public input for Small Cells InstallationProfessor Dey says the main difference between 5G and 4G is the size and frequency of the electromagnetic wavelength. 5G uses a high frequency millimeter wave which is faster but doesn’t travel as far and can be blocked by things like buildings. That means 5G requires a greater number of smaller towers every few blocks. Dey says the bottom line is there is still more to learn, but he believes the technology is safe and may prove even safer that what we’ve been using. “Much safer actually than these big towers would have been,” Dey added. LA JOLLA, California — A long-time animal rights activist who has filmed seals and sea lions harassed in La Jolla says people are not getting the message.Andrea Hahn has filmed the animals every day since 1994. Footage from Sunday she says showed some of the worst behavior she has witnessed in recent months: a woman with a shovel disrupting pregnant mothers on the beach.Another video shows a grieving sea lion mother with her stillborn pup. It has generated over 100 million hits according to Hahn. She says the pregnant mothers are delivering more stillborn pups because people are not giving them proper space. She has even witnessed tourists stepping on the pups.  "People are not getting it. Tourists think because they paid money to get here they have the right to grapple with the animals. There are perfectly good laws on the books and people are ignoring them and the government is not enforcing the laws," said Hahn.A "no-selfie" sign was recently posted at South Casa Beach. It was posted to remind visitors that sea lions and the seals are protected by federal law, monitored by park rangers, and it's illegal to disturb them.  Access to the Children's Pool is closed due to pupping season but is set to reopen in May. "Right now that area is safe and quiet for them. It should be closed for good," Hahn said. 1391

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- La Mesa, El Cajon, Poway, Santee and other local cities are among San Diego County cities to enforce a curfew Sunday night. A curfew will begin at 7 p.m. on May 31 and end at 7 a.m. on June 1 for the City of La Mesa. During that time, the city encouraged residents and visitors to shelter in place. The order was issued following a city council meeting at 9 a.m. Sunday. La Mesa's curfew will also be in effect from Monda at 7 p.m. to Tuesday at 5:30 a.m.National City has also imposed a curfew saying: "This curfew will be in effect starting today, May 31 from 8pm until tomorrow, June 1 at 5:30am. This means no one should be out in public on the streets in National City after 8pm.
