BEIJING, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The parties involved in the Korean Peninsula nuclear talks held intense bilateral meetings here to pave the way for the discussions between chief negotiators, which are scheduled for Thursday afternoon. Kim Sook, chief negotiator of the Republic of Korea (ROK) delegation, met with his U.S. counterpart Christopher Hill and Chinese chief delegate Wu Dawei on Wednesday.    After the bilateral meetings, Kim told reporters that he felt neither "optimistic" nor "pessimistic" about the six-party talks, and each party needed to cool down and detail the relevant issues. Wu Dawei (R), China's top negotiator on Korean Peninsular nuclear issue, meets with his South Korean counterpart Kim Sook in Beijing, capital of China, July 9, 2008. The heads meeting of a new round of six-party talks on Korean Peninsular nuclear issue will be held here on July 10.     Hill, after meeting with the ROK side, said they touched upon issues including the verification process for the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) denuclearization, fuel aid to the country, food shipments and other issues.     Hill said he is scheduled to have a breakfast meeting on Thursday with Russian chief delegate Alexei Borodavkin, after which there will be a trilateral meeting of China, the United States and Russia, with the aim of fully preparing for the six-party talks in the afternoon.     Hill met with the DPRK delegation soon after he arrived in Beijing on Tuesday afternoon, saying that denuclearization verification, including documents, site visits and interviews, would be a focal point in the upcoming meeting.     Under an agreement reached in October, the DPRK agreed to abandon all nuclear weapons and programs and declare all its nuclear programs and facilities by the end of 2007, in exchange for diplomatic and economic incentives.     The DPRK submitted its nuclear declaration to China on June 26 and demolished the cooling tower at the Yongbyon nuclear reactor on June 27, though it missed the deadline.

KIEV, Sept 19 (Xinhua) -- The Seventh Euro-China Forum ended Friday in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, as participants called for further dialogue and cooperation between China and Europe.     In the three-day forum entitled "Silk Road of the 21st century," nearly 200 politicians, academicians, economists from Europe and Asia discussed Sino-Europe relations and economic cooperation.     Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko said China has made great achievements in its economic development and "Ukraine is willing to learn China's successful experiences and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China."     China has just successfully hosted the 2008 Olympic Games and its scale and level was impressive, the president said in a message to the forum.     Addressing the forum, former French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius said that apart from economic cooperation, the Europeans and Chinese should enhance their cultural exchanges to know each other even better.     "The economic and trade relations is the core of the Europe- China cooperation. We, Europeans and Chinese, should seize every opportunity to smoothen out potential frictions and to bridge the gap between the intensification of our commercial relationship and the weakness of our intellectual exchanges. In this respect, the Euro-China Forum plays a crucial part. And its influence keeps growing." he said.     Fabius also noted that Europe in the past called China "a sleeping giant" and the giant is now waking up.     "The success of the Beijing Olympic Games showed China's vigor and enthusiasm," he said.     Chinese ambassador to Ukraine Zhou Li said that Ukraine is an important country in Europe and the Chinese government attaches great importance to developing relations with Ukraine and Europe.     The bilateral economic and trade relations between China and Ukraine have developed steadily in recent years, he said.     "I believe the friendly cooperative relations between China and Ukraine will see a more brilliant future thanks to bilateral joint efforts," Zhou Li said.     The non-governmental forum was initiated by China Europe International Business School to foster unofficial exchanges between the two sides of the Eurasian continent. The forum was first held in 2002 in Barcelona, Spain.

BEIJING, Sept. 24 (Xinhua) -- China and Venezuela on Wednesday inked a series of agreements on wide-ranging fields, a sign of bilateral efforts to advance their strategic partnership to a new high.     The agreements came out of the summit talks in the Great Hall of the People as Beijing rolled out the red carpet for Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.     The 12 new cooperative deals covered trade, oil, finance, education, justice, telecommunications, infrastructure, sports and cultural relics. Chinese President Hu Jintao(R) meets with visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, capital of China, on Sept. 24, 2008.    Chinese President Hu Jintao gave an honor guard reception to Chavez, who was on his fifth visit to China since taking office as Venezuelan president.     In their hour-long talks, Hu first thanked the Venezuelan government and people for providing relief to China following an 8.0-magnitude earthquake that devastated the southwestern China on May 12.     In response, Chavez said the Venezuelan people were sympathetic with the victims in the quake. He wished the Chinese government and people a speedy recovery from the disaster.     On the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics, Hu said China appreciated Venezuela's generous support while Chavez said the successes of hosting the two games would go down in history.     Stressing both China and Venezuela stayed at an important stage, Hu said the two countries shared the goal of stepping up substantive cooperation and seeking common prosperity.     To advance the bilateral strategic partnership, Hu proposed the two countries keep the high-level visits, enhance dialogues between the governments, legislatures and ruling parties, and exchange views on issues of common concern.     On the economic front, Hu said China would like to deepen "all-phase and integrated" oil cooperation with Venezuela, encourage businesses to invest in Venezuela and establish a trade zone.     China will also participate in building Venezuela's infrastructures, including railway system, telecommunications network, social housing and hydro-power.     Hu also called on the two countries to work more closely in education, culture, science and technology, justice, sports, journalism and poverty eradication.     Sharing Hu's view on bilateral ties, Chavez said bilateral trade had progressed smoothly, citing remarkable progress in oil, agriculture, science and infrastructure.     Chave said Venezuela would like to work closely with China on stronger political ties, increased dialogues and more substantive cooperation in energy, finance, agriculture and machinery.     On international issues, Hu and Chavez agreed to step up communication and consultation in multi-lateral organizations and on global issues, so as to safeguard the reasonable rights of developing countries.     Earlier Wednesday, top Chinese legislator Wu Banguo also met with Chavez. Wu said China's National People's Congress, the country's top legislature, would like to maintain its friendly exchanges and cooperation with the Venezuelan legislature, boosting the overall bilateral ties.     Chavez will conclude his three-day state visit to China on Thursday.
